You see Shaquille O’Neal once and you never forget him. Not only due to being over 7 feet tall but also because of the persona that far outsizes his stature. During March Madness, in an array of assortments that have tended to become a norm, many saw Shaq and his Home Depot ads. Speaking about advertisements on his podcast, he revealed a fascinating story about one ad released in 2016.
Before discussing the project, Shaq confessed that he never rewatched his work. For him, it is as simple as working on one project and moving on to the next. On The Big Podcast Shaq, co-host Adam Lefkoe asked Shaq the story behind the advertisement with Kendrick Lamar. In what was rather surprising with the kind of names involved, Shaq replied that it was a one-take shot, and why he refused to shoot it again.

The Lakers icon ensured that he doesn’t like to order others on what needs to be done. During the commercial, however, he had to step in, “I was like no Kendrick I’m going to stand over here and you just shoot it and that was the first take he shot it and it bounced off my head and it still went in.” The director was happy and wanted another take but Shaq politely refused. He further confessed that he doesn’t want to stop with ads, with a desire to do more music.

Shaquille O’Neal is no stranger to the world of music

Shaq has time and again shown his love for DJing, operating under the moniker DJ Diesel. Further, DJing is also how he connects with his son Myles O’Neal, with the two previously mentioning how they share music and practice together. While doing so, Shaq has also found a few friends along the way. As is expected from the 4x NBA champion, humor finds a way here too in suggestions of amusing birthday ideas.

All in jest, of course. With his DJing career, Shaq recently played at the Dun House Las Vegas 2024. Notably, apart from being behind the turn tables, he has also been in front of them. The Lakers legend has 5 studio albums and even a soundtrack album. Either way, Shaq sure has the music bug in him.
