The 2024 Paris Olympic showdown between France and Japan basketball tournament was nothing short of excitement and anticipation. It would be a devastating affair to witness France’s loss on their home ground. But luckily for them, as the final whistle blew, France narrowly escaped with a 94-90 win against Japan. Amidst the post-game analysis, one voice stood out: Manu Ginobili, the Argentine basketball legend, who offered a candid critique of Japan’s performance.

Manu Ginobili’s post-match observation concluded the harsh reality for both teams, stating that despite their remarkable talent and efforts, the teams lacked the seasoned experience that was required. “Inexperience is a huge liability down the stretch in tight games. France survived Japan almost miraculously. Fun game to watch!”

During the closing minutes of the game, Japan’s inexperience became evident as they struggled to maintain composure under high pressure. Josh Hawkinson and Co. led the game for all three quarters, until Frances’ Matthew Strazel’s 4-point play equaled the game 84-84, 10 seconds on the clock, to head into overtime. “We could’ve easily given up down four with 10 seconds. We had no solution, and we got a crazy shot from Matthew,” Nicolas Batum said, via Fiba. “Sometimes, God is on your side.”

Three free throw attempts, a layup, and a 3-pointer by Victor Webenyama in the overtime then, sealed it for the hosts while Yuki Kawamura’s three-pointer came in a little too late for their opponents.

France’s Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum, and Evan Fournier, all happen to have prior Olympic experience with a silver each from Tokyo. Moreover, the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year’s 16 points, 10 rebounds, and crucial contributions in overtime, were pivotal in France’s win.

“To be able to fight until the very end against one of the top teams in the world, that’s definitely steps in the right direction for us,” Hawkinson iterated.

As the dust settles from this intense match, France now turns its attention to another formidable opponent in Group B: Germany. One notable match took place during the FIBA EuroBasket 2017, where France narrowly defeated Germany 84-81. This upcoming game promises to be another thrilling encounter for the French squad, with both teams eyeing a top spot in their group.

France to take on table leaders next

France will face Germany in their upcoming game in Group B of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Following their previous showdown in the FIBA EuroBasket 2017, this game is predicted to be an upcoming thrilling experience. France, led by standout players like Victor Wembanyama, Nicolas Batum, Evan Fournier, and Rudy Gobert, will look to leverage their height and defensive prowess to control the game. Meanwhile, Germany, with key players such as Daniel Theis, Dennis Schröder, and the Wagner brothers, aims to exploit any defensive gaps in the French line-up using their speed and agility.

France will focus on effective ball movement and quick transitions to break down Germany’s defense, while Germany will rely on shooting and defensive strategies to counter France’s height advantage. The game, set to tip off on Friday, August 2nd at 8:00 AM CST, will be a defining moment in Group B play, with both teams eyeing the top spot and France hoping to emerge victorious once again in their home court.
