Iman Shumpert: NBA champion, dancer, and now a millionaire—what's your take on his diverse career?

Iman Shumpert may not have had an exceptional NBA career, but he made decent money in the league. He was having a successful personal life as well with his marriage to Teyana Taylor in 2016. However, this ended after a divorce that, though filed earlier, came to light in November 2023. The root cause of the split reportedly is the finances between the two. Notably, Taylor accused Shumpert of being jealous of her career success and the spotlight she gets.

The singer even accused the former NBA star of cheating shortly after the birth of their second child. During a proceeding, she revealed she intended to file for divorce twice before, but only moved ahead with it after the instances of infidelity. However, all the fuss involved around the finances raised curiosity about the former NBA star’s wealth.

According to the Celebrity Net Worth, the 2016 NBA champ’s net worth is $16 million. While a significant portion of this comes from his league earnings, he also had alternate sources of income. As for his earnings from the league, the total amount stands at $48.2 million.

Shumpert’s 10-year-long NBA career started with the New York Knicks, where he made $4.6 million in three seasons. Shumpert’s peak NBA earning was his $40 million extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, highlighting the substantial earnings from his time in the league. Iman’s highest earning in a single season also came with the Cavs at $9.7 million in season 2019-20.

However, Shumpert did not limit his earnings just to the NBA. Some other notable sources of income for the NBA champ include real estate investments. This involves the former Cavs star buying and selling homes. Apart from this, endorsements and his reality TV show — Teyana and Iman — turned out to be his one venture in the entertainment industry. But this venture includes both Shumpert and his ex-wife, Taylor. He was also part of Showtime’s The Chi from its 4th till the recently concluded 6th season.

However, it’s not known what exactly Shumpert’s net worth stands at after his divorce settlement.

As stated above, Taylor had secretly filed for divorce in January 2023, because of his alleged “cruel treatment“. However, the singer managed to keep all of it a secret until reporters got the hint of it in November 2023. In a more recent instance, Iman requested some concession in the child support amount. The former Cavs star claimed he makes close to $48,000 on a monthly basis, which is significantly less than Taylor’s $94,000 monthly earnings.

Meanwhile, Taylor claimed Shumpert withdrew approximately $4 million from their joint account. Additionally, she alleged the NBA champ left her with home repairs to the amount of nearly $200,000. Now, as per the documents from ‘The Jasmine Brand’, the court ruling has granted Taylor four martial properties with a total worth of approximately $10 million.

The singer will retain the possession of her jewelry, and her companies — ‘Taylormade’ and ‘The Aunties’. She will also keep her vehicles, which reportedly include a Maybach, a Mercedes Sprinter, a tour bus, and her Bronco truck. As for Shumpert, the court ruling directed him to pay a ‘one-time seven-figure payment’ to Taylor on top of $8,000 monthly child support, while also covering private school fees for his two daughters with Taylor.
