“Do what you like, like what you do!” Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t just live by this motto—he redefines it. From dominating NBA courts to spinning tracks as Big Diesel, Shaq knows how to own the stage. But now, the 4x NBA champ is setting his sights on the ways a notable arena: the $10.3 billion Star Wars franchise. What sparked this unexpected move?

Shaq spilled the beans on Wynn Las Vegas’s podcast about how Star Wars ignited this surprising ambition. “I’m on 87 now. When I get to 100 songs, I’m gonna release either one album or five albums. And you know where I got that idea from?” he teased before adding, “George Lucas made me so mad.”

So, why did Star Wars, of all things, get under Shaq’s skin? It was Lucas’ approach to releasing the prequel after the initial trilogy. Among the many left confused with the order was the Big Diesel. But he is using it as an inspiration for his music project, going with the unconventional.

“Growing up, I watched Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and the other one. Then he would come back 20 years later and say, ‘No, that’s not 1, 2, 3. This is 3, 4, 5. Watch 1, 2, 3,’” he explained“Since you want to do that, I’m gonna hit them with the old markers. ‘These are 100 songs, but this is supposed to be the first album, the second album, the third.’”

Of course, this music mogul didn’t become Big Diesel overnight. Back in October, Shaq opened up on the Creativo podcast about the secret behind his success: fun first. It’s a principle that’s helped him cross industries.

“Just you know, growing up in the hip-hop culture, music just moves me. All types of music… I had a fun mindset, I like to have fun, I’m the ambassador of having fun,” he said. It’s evident with the new revelation. However, despite the fun personality, Shaq has a big regret, and it’s about his music career.

From dominating the NBA with four championships to shaking up the music world, Shaquille O’Neal seems unstoppable. Yet, even with an impeccable career in basketball and music, there’s one thing missing that still bugs Shaq to this day.

Last October, while speaking on Round 1 of Judging Your Music, Shaq opened up about one of his biggest regrets: not having a truly timeless track. Since his debut album, the Big Diesel has put out nearly 100 songs and even ventured into genres like EDM. In fact, his EDM album, Gorilla Warfare, was a significant step in his music journey. Yet, Shaq confessed on Whozfire that he hasn’t created a track that stands the test of time.

“I’ve did a 100 songs but I don’t have one that when you still play it 20 years later, it still hard like that like that,” he admitted.

Even with this regret, Shaq’s love for music remains as strong as ever. He shared how certain songs still give him that nostalgic thrill every time he hears them. With an album in sight, maybe we get to see Shaq tick that box off.
