The long-standing GOAT debate often takes an interesting turn. While it usually starts from a basic analysis of athletes’ careers, we’ve seen some interest areas being added to the argument. We have the usual suspects in the GOAT debate all the time: Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Bill Russell, and LeBron James. However, the debate has been expanded to different areas that go beyond the on-court game.
The impact of a player, the number of clutch performances, being a good leader, and influence on the next generation are just some of the aspects now fans look at. Another one that has been in the books recently is the net worth accumulated by the superstars. That category is only reserved for Jordan and LeBron. Recently, a millionaire CEO chimed in on the debate, settling it for good with a threefold analogy.

Fans have always been interested in the debate. The discourse over who is the greatest basketball player to ever live is something that helps the league overall. The interest shown by fans in the discussion translates into social media mentions, ticket and merch sales, and much more. At the same time, we are yet to succeed in reaching a unanimous decision and we may never will. Tim Grover, who was Jordan’s trainer, addressed the GOAT debate recently. Grover had worked with the Chicago Bulls as a trainer during his NBA days and helped him get six rings. He is the CEO of Attack Athletics and a bestselling author.
Jordan’s trainer before retirement chimed in on the debate in fashion. Addressing a crowd where he was asked to pick between the two. Tim Grover said that he has an answer to the question, and it is in three folds. He asked the crowd if they know who has won a scoring title. The regular season MVP, first-team defensive player, led the playoffs in scoring, and won the MVP in the finals, all in the same season. Stating that it has been done only four times in the history of the league, Grover revealed the names “Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Jordan.”
He then proceeded to the next two criteria for the GOAT debate.

Tim Grover takes the GOAT debate further
Grover asked the room to stand up if they own a pair of Jordans. Needless to say, more than half the people were on their feet. Then he asked, “If you have a pair of LeBron’s, stand-up,” and most of the people remained seated. He then went to his third criterion, which was bizarre in its own way. Grover asked if someone has ever been “robbed” for a pair of LeBron’s and everyone in the room had a good laugh about it.
