Despite being married to NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal for seven years, Shaunie Henderson claimed that her husband Keion Henderson was the only man to have ever proposed to her. Now last month in an interview with her husband on his YouTube channel, she mentioned a few other things that were new to her in their marriage and how she never felt those things before.

Shaunie appeared on her husband, Pastor Keion Henderson’s YouTube channel, Keion Henderson TV last month. After introducing his wife to the Lighthouse Church congregation, Henderson talked about how trust is the most important thing in a relationship according to him. He then asked his wife “How do I know when I meet somebody, ‘thats my person?'”

Shaunie, who is the first lady of Lighthouse Church, shared the example of their relationship to explain her answer. She said, “I have an answer for that cuz I knew this question. So trust was one. I could trust you. You challenged me and I received the challenge, I wasn’t like rebelling the challenge. I didn’t combat the challenge, I take on the challenge. And look forward to you challenging me to do things, to say things, to share things, to feel things that I never felt, so that was super important to me.”

She also pointed out, “That was something I didn’t feel before so that helped. I would fight for this relationship. I wanted to understand how you received love and you wanted to understand how I received love that’s that was brand new to me too to actually take the time to learn how somebody receives love is not just loving them.”

Further during the conversation, she told Keion she’s his “biggest fan,” and added, “You make me feel secure. We share life goals that was super important. You care about my opinions as well as I care about yours.”

She began Keion Henderson in 2020 and a year later they got engaged. They got married on May 28, 2022. Shaunie moved where Shaq’s career took him and this time, she and her younger kids relocated to Texas to be with Keion too. Apart from what she mentioned in the conversation with her husband, in 2002 during an interview on Daytime, Shaunie mentioned that she was never proposed to before Keion popped the question. She said, “Never. No. I never got a proposal. I thought we were at his friend’s birthday dinner and then he started talking about love and I’m like, ‘Why are you doing this?’”

Shaunie has gone through the breakdowns of relationships before. She had a son, Myles, from a previous relationship before she met then-Lakers star, Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq adopted Myles, and Big Diesel had four kids with Shaunie, but his relationship with her was not the healthiest behind the scenes. Shaunie filed for separation in 2009 and their divorce was finalized in 2011.

Shaq himself didn’t shift the blame for the end of his marriage. He admitted to infidelity and being a bad husband to Shaunie. Their separation played out in the first season of Basketball Wives and Shaunie once expressed violent rage after discovering the 4x champion’s infidelity. Things have however changed for them.

Her relationship with Shaq is way better as co-parents now too and the giant is cordial with Keion. The three of them were a united front for Shaq and Shaunie’s daughter Me’Arah’s senior night and her commitment to Florida. She’s not only making her marriage work, she’s trying to make her entire blended family work.
