Is La La Anthony's openness about psoriasis a game-changer for raising awareness on autoimmune diseases?

This is the first time I’m really talking about it publicly… but you just get that ‘aha’ moment where you realize ‘I wasn’t put in this position to not utilize my voice and my platform for good.” La La Anthony once spoke to Newsweek about the skin condition that she has been facing for more than 10 years. But now it seems like the 42-year-old is making a bit of progress with improved procedures.

Recently, Anthony took to Instagram to share an update on her health, revealing that she underwent a new treatment, plasmapheresis. “Thank you so much to the amazing @dr.kuo at @extension.health where we did a procedure called plasmapheresis or therapeutic plasma exchange, which can get rid of the toxins in the body. Essentially it’s like cleaning your blood. Now you know I’m terrified of needles but I made it through and it wasn’t bad at all. We also discussed peptides and stem cells and how we can use all these cutting edge treatments to optimize my health! I’m already feeling brand new!” wrote Anthony as the caption.

Moreover, the actress even stated how brave she was during the procedure. “I survived the two iv’s they put in your arm. l’m so proud of myself! needles are a top 3 fear of mine,” added La La.

Plasmapheresis is a medical procedure typically used to treat autoimmune diseases by filtering out harmful substances from the blood. It can be beneficial for those with autoimmune conditions by removing the antibodies that contribute to inflammation. Although we don’t know, it can be speculated that the 42-year-old has undergone this surgery to treat her plaque psoriasis.

The Single Ladies actress has been quite vocal about her condition over the years. This chronic autoimmune disease, marked by red, itchy, scaly patches of skin, has affected Anthony’s life both physically and emotionally. In La La’s case, she explained that plaques usually formed on her scalp or behind the ears, and her being an actress, this was quite a major concern.

I’m going to be real with you; there were many times when my plaque psoriasis influenced what I wore or how I did my hair and makeup. Eventually, I got tired of thinking about these itchy patches—whether it was a big event or a little moment—so I went to my doctor. She told me that plaque psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that starts from inflammation inside your body,” wrote Anthony in an Instagram post.

Living with a chronic condition like plaque psoriasis requires an ongoing commitment to health and self-care, which La La has demonstrated through her openness and advocacy. As someone in the public eye, she recognizes the influence she holds and has used her platform to support others who may be silently enduring similar challenges. Moreover, did you know even her best friend has the same condition as she does?

La La Anthony’s friend suffers from the same skin condition

Kim Kardashian may be known for her flawless style, but behind the scenes, she battles the same chronic skin condition as her friend La La Anthony. This autoimmune disorder doesn’t care about fame, and Kim has bravely pulled back the curtain on her own journey with it. “It’s been 13 years since I experienced my first psoriasis flare-up. My journey has been very different from my mom’s, but I see so many similarities as well. She had it in her scalp and all over her body, and I’d see it all the time and remember her going to the tanning salon to try and ease it. Getting UV rays directly on the spots really helped my mom,” said Kardashian in an interview with Poosh.

Moreover, the Kardashian sister also is the reason behind Anthony getting so much confidence to speak about her condition to the public without any shame. “The thing I’ve taken from [Kim] is not to be afraid of it, not to be ashamed of it. It’s something that we have; it doesn’t make us any less human, or weird or freaky. It’s about being open with what we have and being open with other people who are suffering from the same thing. If I was to take anything from her it would be that: to not be ashamed of it,” said La La Anthony, as per People.

Both women serve as examples of resilience, showing that psoriasis doesn’t define them but rather adds to their journey of self-acceptance. Their shared experiences highlight the importance of visibility, and empathy, helping to normalize psoriasis and inspire others to embrace their journeys.
