Brandon Knight could still be getting nightmares because of former Clippers star DeAndre Jordan’s thunderous poster in 2013. The dunk, which is considered arguably the best this century, made headlines all over the country. ‘Brandon Knight is dead now‘ jokes were flooding the internet as well. Having discussed it numerous times already, DeAndre’s then-teammate, Matt Barnes, has once again stated his opinion of the dunk that came during a Detroit Pistons vs LA Clippers game in March 2013.

In a fan interaction video shared by All the Smoke Productions, one fan asked why he saw Matt Barnes swallowing his jersey and running on the sidelines. “I just felt like I witnessed a murder. I didn’t want them to ask me no questions. So I just ran,” he said. The former NBA star further recalled the entire sequence, where Chris Paul came off a pick to the right side. “Brandon Knight, for some reason, snuck in and tried to be a hero and block that lob and Deandre Jordan… I ain’t seen Brandon Knight since,” he said.

Notably, this is not the first time that Barnes has expressed how stunned he was at the dunk by his 6’11” teammate. In an episode of All the Smokes Podcast in 2020, the 2017 NBA champ had termed it as “probably one of the most disrespectful dunks in the history of the game.” Meanwhile, his podcast co-host Stephen Jackson could not believe that Jordan was still not in jail for this.

Though a hilarious exaggeration on Jackson’s end, it was justified considering even Chris Paul’s reaction the next day of the game. The 12x All-Star had stated that he thought he passed the ball too far. So he was not expecting DeAndre to go for the dunk but to bring down the ball. “But somehow he stretched out,” Paul said. Apart from this, after the dunk it seemed Knight had passed out, and thus the ‘Brandon Knight is dead’ jokes came up. Not only was he fine but also responded the next day.

What did the two stars involved in the play say?

It is worth mentioning Knight displayed an impressive spirit even after the dunk, both off and on-court. Moments later, after facing the monstrous dunk, the Pistons star drew a foul from Paul and sunk both his free throws.

Amid the ongoing social media trolling as well, Knight laughed off the incident with a post on X. “It wasn’t in the scouting reports that the clippers threw lobs lol,” he wrote. That Clippers team was known as ‘Lob City’ for a reason. Knight’s sarcastic take only added a hilarious feel to the incident. As for DeAndre, speaking about the dunk the very next day, he first praised Chris Paul for his pass.

“He set me up pretty nice, man, and honestly, I didn’t see Brandon until I caught the ball, and then it was too late for me to do anything else but dunk it after that,” the 6’11” player said. He further mentioned that usually there is no one around when he dunks. And that this was the first time someone tried to block. DeAndre Jordan, Chris Paul, and Blake Griffin were the key trio from the Clippers’ Lob City phase, who gave some unforgettable moments to the fans and players such as Matt Barnes.
