It’s hard to believe that a guy whose net worth is $160 million was once short of money. Anthony Davis was that person during his time on the Kobe Bryant-led 2012 USA Basketball Olympics team. While the incident may have been quite embarrassing, the overall experience was quite rich, as revealed by Davis.

Appearing on the podcast, the 9x All-Star recalled the time they were supposed to go for a team dinner during the 2012 Olympics in Barcelona. He further mentioned that thinking of his college phase, he went in sweats while everyone else was dressed up for dinner. “They pull me to the side and say they, hey, young fella, next time, don’t come. No, but then again, I ain’t got no money. I can’t afford that. You know, like, I mean, I can, but it’s like, I didn’t bring nothing,” Davis said, via JOIN THE LOBBY.

Notably, the 2012 Olympics roster included LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Andre Iguodala, James Harden, Tyson Chandler, and Anthony Davis. The team secured a gold medal at the event with a perfect 8-0 record. And although Davis played just 53 minutes in 7 games, he learned a lot from the experience as stated by him.

“They just showed me, told me, and showed me how to be professional, how to work…What it means to actually work hard and work ethic. So just watching that from afar, just being around them, gaining that knowledge, that mentorship…You couldn’t even put into words,” he added. And seemingly, this helped him in the long run as the guy once concerned about money shortage went on to earn millions.
