The Orlando Magic era of Dwight Howard was one of the most memorable to the fans. The big man was one of the dominant centers in his prime. Unlike his professional career, his personal life didn’t register the same success. The champ fathered five children with five different women. However, the ‘Steel Man’ has always been a doting father. From hyping up his kids on social media to being the best father guiding them, he is dedicated to fulfilling his role as a father.

He has three sons named Braylon, and Dwight III or Trey, David, and two daughters, Layla and Jayde Howard.

The former Los Angeles Lakers player had a complicated, on-and-off relationship with his eldest son Braylon Howard‘s mother, Royce Reed. Reed was a former Orlando Magic cheerleader. After an ugly breakup, the champ and Reed reunited and welcomed their son Braylon on November 18, 2007.

It so happened one time that his eldest child called him out for being an absent father. He took to his Instagram handle to share his thoughts. In an interview with Nina Brown, the 8x NBA All-Star clarified that he has been a great father. Howard further stated that he was hurt by the accusations. These are some controversies and scandals that have continued to surround the big man.

Dwight Howard and Tiffany Render welcomed their daughter Layla Howard

Layla Howard is the eldest daughter and was born in 2010. Howard held the secondary custody of his daughter and paid $3,000 per month in child support. While Layla’s mother Tiffany Render held the primary custody, Howard later filed a petition to claim Layla’s primary custody in November 2023.

Howard claimed that his ex-girlfriend Tiffany Render wasn’t able to provide a good environment for his 13-year-old daughter. He also stated that Render allegedly relocated without informing him. While Render denied all the claims, the decision was made in Howard’s favor.

Dwight Howard’s third eldest daughter is Jayde Howard

Jayde Howard was born in December 2010 to Hope Alexa. Her mother is a fitness model from Vancouver, Canada. Other than a few of Howard’s pictures with Jayde, not much is known about the 13-year-old. Both of his daughters were born around the same year. During that time, the champ was still playing with Orlando Magic.

Dwight Howard’s second son Dwight III

The 10-year-old is also known as Trey Howard. Christine Vest gave birth to him on June 13, 2013. Howard’s second son and Vest have also stayed away from the public. There isn’t much information on Trey Howard, however, that doesn’t mean the big man isn’t present for him.

While speaking about his kids, the 8-time NBA All-Star fondly stated that he spends time with them and tries his best to be a present father.

Dwight Howard takes care of his third eldest son

Howard’s ex-girlfriend Melissa Rios gave birth to their son David Howard in the same year. He was born on December 15, 2013. Rios was a real- estate agent. In 2020, she tragically passed away due to an epileptic seizure. Howard stated that he ensures to provide all the love and care that his young son needs.

Rios’ death was quite hard on Howard. Later in an interview, the champ explained that it was difficult for him to deal with the pain. “It’s been one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to deal with. It’s really hard, especially during this time. There’s nowhere to go. Usually if things are happening, we have basketball or something to keep our minds going. But a situation like this, it’s a situation that I’ll have to deal with forever because of our child,” Howard said to Fox16.

During that time, he also returned to the Lakers where he won his first and only championship. However, some fans raised doubts about his performance when his candidacy for the Hall of Fame was discussed. While currently, the former Los Angeles Lakers player has been making international trips for his games, the champ still has a wish to make a comeback in the league. And so has the fans.
