Did Anthony Edwards just throw down the Dunk of the Year? At least that’s what NBA Today and NBA Countdown Host Malika Andrews believes. And she is not alone. The dunk came during the Utah Jazz vs Minnesota Timberwolves game today. Andrews posted the highlight of the moment on her official X account. “Dunk of the Year? My goodness,” read the post. Some former NBA stars have also joined her to express their admiration for the stunning play.

3x All-Star Gilbert Arenas was among the first ones to react as he was unable to contain his excitement. Moreover, a former member of the Timberwolves himself, Kevin Garnett, seems to have been left speechless by his successor’s play. Garnett could not react with anything but supporting emojis for Edwards.

Considered a fearless dunker himself, Dwyane Wade too seems to be impressed with what Anthony Edwards did against Utah, writing, “HIM.”

Meanwhile, 2008 NBA champion Kendrick Perkins too fell short of words and reacted with just “God Bless America!!” on Malika’s post.

While it will definitely go down as one of the best plays of the season, the supposed Dunk of the Year has not gone down well with some of the fans because of the risk involved with his opponent, who appeared to suffer an injury.

As per some fans, Edwards’ dunk came at the cost of risking John Collins’ career. The play came with 5:30 left in the third quarter when Anthony got control of the ball. Edwards, while running the floor full speed in transition, launched himself from the dotted line. The result was one of the nastiest poster dunks ever on Collins.

In fact, the 26-year-old Utah Jazz player reportedly sustained a head injury during the play. Citing sources, The Athletic’s Shams Charania has reported that though Collins avoided a concussion, he has suffered a head contusion from the play. Notably, he is also known in the NBA community for his thunderous dunks. Collins has quite a collection of such poster dunks to his name. However, this one came bearing a cost for him as well.

This dunk was so ferocious that Edwards himself dislocated his finger while throwing it down the rim. Even in the highlight video, the Timberwolves’ guard can be seen looking at his finger in a feeling of pain. He also admitted during the post-game interview that he did dislocate his finger.
