It’s time to rethink your friendships if your bestie isn’t as supportive as SZA is for Gabrielle Union. Why? The singer believes Union is the perfect choice when it comes to a movie about American activist Coretta Scott King. The idea came to her after seeing an old viral picture of Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta. However, when SZA proposed the idea, some fans dismissed it, critiquing Union’s acting skills.

SZA took to Instagram to share a famous old picture of the couple posing in front of the Judicial Building in May 1956. She wrote, “I’d like to see a movie of their personal love story. I need [Gabrielle Union] to play young Coretta.” , expressing her desire to see Union portray the role. 

While the 52-year-old actress’s age might raise concerns if she were to play a younger Coretta, her youthful looks could easily compensate. However, Union, too, feels she may be too old for the role. “Might be a lil long in the tooth to play young Coretta but this is why I love youuuu.”

But the singer quickly dismissed these concerns, reminding Union that she looks young enough to portray a younger Coretta during her marriage. “Pls u look like a baby… serve us the slay we deserve…” the singer replied.

Now, several other talented actresses have played Coretta in movies. Carmen Ejogo played the role of Coretta in Boycott (2001) and Selma (2014), and Angela Bassett also portrayed Coretta once. But when SZA shared the viral picture with her casting suggestion, many thought it was a still from a movie starring Union. Coretta, in her green dress and a huge hat and glasses in the image, bears a striking resemblance to Union. 

So, it seems natural for SZA to want Union to take the role. However, fans don’t seem impressed with the idea. After The Shade Room shared the singer’s suggestion, fans expressed their opinion.

Fans disagree with SZA about her movie idea

A stroll through the comments section of the post that reshared the story reveals that fans believe Union’s acting skills aren’t quite at par for the role. And they politely declined the idea. But that wasn’t the same for the rest, who believed that Union had been playing roles that were all similar. “No thanks Gab beautiful but has been the exact same character in everything for the past 25 years,” the fan wrote.

Though Union is well-known for her rom-com roles, she has an impressive range, with standout performances in The Inspection, Breaking In, Cadillac Records, Almost Christmas, and more. These are some of the most significant films of her career. However, this one feels otherwise and says, “Hell no. Gabrielle can’t act in depth dramas.”

Union entered the acting world in the 90s and is well-known for her roles in hit rom-coms like The Brothers, Deliver Us from Eva, and more. She also starred in the critically acclaimed Being Mary Jane, which became the highest-rated show on BET. She also won the NAACP Image Award for her brilliant acting. But these experiences don’t seem enough for this fan who wrote, “Respectfully we need someone who can demonstrate a broader range of emotions.” 

She recently appeared in Riff Raff and will soon show her best in Casket Girls. Dwyane Wade‘s wife, Union, has been working not only as an actor but also as a producer. Union may have delivered great work, but people are seemingly worried about her face. One said, “I hate her acting. Especially that thing she does with her mouth, lol.”

She played the role of Isis in Bring It On, a film that grossed $90 million worldwide and became a huge hit, bringing her talent to the attention of both audiences and directors. But this wasn’t enough for friends. While one wrote, “Gabby can’t act tho” while others wrote, “No please 😭 please no”
