Everybody has different advice for JJ Redick for accepting or turning down the job. Gilbert Arenas feels it’s a great place to start for any new coach since the team is already full of stars. “You got to start somewhere. God damn it, I guess I rather start with the purple and gold.” And another veteran feels Redick could even become a HOF coach.

Rashad McCants & Kenyon Martin recently spoke about the new head coach and the intangible traits that guarantee JJ will be an all-time great. Arenas started with how players’ mindsets change and they see the game differently when they are benched for the majority of the game.

According to the 3x NBA All-Star, some players “talk about everything but basketball.” rather than focusing on how to impact the game when they sub in. And when they get the chance to play, their gameplay is not synced in with the others. McCants agreed and said that’s the major difference why some players become the best: they are always locked in. The former Wolves star also shared an analogy concerning JJ Redick.

While some players may not talk about basketball, some prefer to talk strategy while on the bench. Yet according to McCants Redick didn’t prefer talking about the game either. On the Gil’s Arena livestream, Rashad McCants said, “So I’m looking JJ as a guy that was like that when he wasn’t in the game. He wasn’t participating in the bull**it conversation.”

JJ Redick would rather talk to himself about the difference in plays. With LeBron James and Anthony Davis as the star duo, Redick has a better platform than many coaches. Arenas feels apart from Redick, the staff that he might bring could be a game changer.

JJ Redick is not the final piece of the puzzle?

Redick doesn’t have elite experience in coaching. So his staff would be the key factor to understanding the game state situations that Redick has never experienced. “I’m not worrying about him. I’m, what is going to be his staff that’s all I really care about, said Arenas. He continued, “I want to see his cuz everybody got fired so I want to see who the trainers are, who is going to be behind that bench, who’s the medicals. I need to know who’s going to be hired and I can tell you if you’re going to be successful or not…”

The reported names of assistant coaches might impress Arenas after all. Redick might bring the likes of James Borrego, Sam Cassell, and Jared Dudley to Los Angeles with him. Another new name has been added to the mix, leaving the Lakers fans divided. The fans seem to have mixed opinions on the recent Rajon Rondo rumors. Bleacher Report recently shared the update by Los Angeles Times’ Dan Woike to its official account on X. “Lakers are considering adding Rajon Rondo to their coaching staff next season, via @DanWoikeSports… Rondo won a championship with the Lakers in 2020,” read the post.

Just like JJ Redick, Rajon Rondo has been considered one of the tactical minds in the game. The apparent appointment by the Lakers could be expected once the NBA finals are completed. Since Redick has work commitments with ESPN until then shortlisting his background staff might not be a bad idea.
