In 2021, the league’s brightest stars from across generations gathered to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NBA. The event was a grand reunion where legends mingled, shared stories, and revisited old rivalries. However, amidst this star-studded celebration, one player received special treatment from the other greats: Allen Iverson. What was it about 11× NBA All-Star champ that warranted such reverence from the other legends?
On the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, 3× NBA champion Dwyane Wade shared his astonishment at how the other legends embraced Iverson at the ceremony. Wade, speaking with Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero, recounted how everyone was sizing each other up. Despite being one of the shortest players in the room, Iverson being embraced by the older legends, was an amusing sight for Melo. “We know AI, we’ve been around him. But to see the older guys was embracing him… Because that’s hard to embrace like if you want to get technical,” he recalls.
As Melo goes, “He’s great but how the f***,” Wade chimes in, laughing, “he little bro.” Acknowledging the former shooting guard’s impeccable presence despite, Melo further explains, “the energy they gave him, you realize, like ‘okay, they respect him’. He’s aura is different too.”

Standing just 6-feet tall, Iverson came to be one of the greatest shooting guards with his quickness, outpacing anyone on the court. In being so, he also bagged the honor as the league’s MVP in 2001 – the shortest and the lightest player ever to claim the title. Pair it with the All-NBA and All-Star selections he incurred, the gesture only would seem natural. But to AI, it was a flattering moment.
Iverson opened up about his feelings during the occasion on the Knuckleheads Podcast. He described it as the greatest feeling just to be in that room. Furthermore, Iverson recalled telling the older legends it was an honor to meet them, only for them to say the same to him, expressing that they had always wanted to meet him. “That was flattering being in the room where you are considered the cream of the crop, and they are giving you your props,” Iverson said.
Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan: Shared Admiration at 75 Celebration
In the Knuckleheads Podcast, Allen Iverson opened up about the incredible experience of being in the same room as 6× NBA champion Michael Jordan during the NBA’s Top 75 ceremony. Iverson described the day as unforgettable, noting how thrilled everyone was to see Jordan. “I remember the reaction from them,” Iverson said, emphasizing the awe and excitement felt by all 74 other legends present.
Furthermore, The Answer shared his disbelief at watching Jordan up close. “Yo, this man is the man for real,” he said, expressing his admiration. He went on to call Jordan the greatest of all time, crediting him as the inspiration for his own career.
Adding to his story, Iverson then revealed Jordan’s reaction to his praise. While The Answer was praising him nonstop, 14× NBA All-Star pulled him aside and said, “Chuck man, stop that s**t man. Like man, you a superstar too man, don’t do that.”

Despite this, Iverson couldn’t help but express his admiration, saying, “I just can’t help it, I love this dude.” Their conversation took a humorous turn when Jordan told him that Iverson doesn’t really love him, as Iverson performed a dirty crossover move on him during a match in March 1997.
