For the right or wrong reasons, Agent Zero often goes viral for his opinions. One was when he unhesitatingly snubbed Stephen Curry from his list of generational talents. However, the retired NBA player knows how to give credit where it’s due. After Team USA secured a narrow victory over Team Serbia, Arenas praised the Golden State Warriors star. Arenas admitted how the 4x NBA champ’s thunderous performance in the Semifinals kept fans’ hopes alive during the tense moments in the first half.
The NBA veteran scored 36 points and 8 rebounds. He hit nine 3-pointers to lead Team USA. When asked about who deserves the credit for the win, Arenas named Curry and said, “Curry because he kept hope alive. Like, there was moments in the game where we needed that three every time he shot that three because whatever happened it could have been a real blowout, right?”
“This could have been a 20-20 something blowout right the way it looked, but he always hit a three that kind of kept us there,” Arenas said on the Gils Arena Podcast. Having a 17-point lead, Team Serbia with Bogdan Bogdanovic scoring 20 and Nikola Jokić contributing 17, was a strong contender to defeat.

Curry’s former teammate Kevin Durant also stepped up, scoring 9 points. Following the win, Curry was seen sharing an emotional moment with his Olympic teammate LeBron James. As Arenas explained, Curry’s performance not only boosted the team’s victory but also lifted their morale. However, just a few days earlier, Agent Zero had ruthlessly snubbed Curry from his list.
Why does Gilbert Arenas believe that Stephen Curry isn’t a generational talent?
Not only Stephen Curry but also Nikola Jokić is missing from Gilbert Arenas’ list. Both players have unique and unrivaled talents, but Arenas argues that generational talent is something that cannot be replicated.
This may be true but it only applies to a particular generation. But Arenas goes on to highlight Magic Johnson as a generational talent, whose passing skills remain unmatched. He is right here about the 5x NBA champ. He further mentioned Shaquille O’Neal, Victor Wembanyama’s height, and King James’ physicality as examples.

“Steph is not a generational talent… Generational means you can’t mimic it… You can’t mimic Shaquille O’Neal’s body. You can’t mimic f**king LeBron James. You can’t mimic Wemby. Those are generational — it only comes once every… there’s only five or six,” the Washington Wizards legend said.

Arenas believes that generational talent is determined primarily by physical traits, which is why these NBA stars are not on his list. It’s quite rare for Arenas to say something without sparking a debate on social media. This one did the same. Arenas’ latest words of praise for the NBA veteran might placate those who were upset by his previous comment.
