As the 2024 Paris Olympics approach, the USA’s star-studded team is all set to dazzle on the court. Amidst the excitement, though, there seems to be a growing debate revolving around Joel Embiid. The 30-year-old is all set to make his international tournament debut with Team USA in Paris. However, a former NBA champion is questioning whether his focus should be on winning a gold medal or an NBA championship. This controversy comes at a crucial moment, with Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis making a strong case for a spot in the starting line-up.

Former Detroit Pistons star Rasheed Wallace recently voiced strong opinions on Embiid’s participation in the Olympics, emphasizing that the Philadelphia 76ers star should prioritize his health and the upcoming NBA season. “He doesn’t look healthy,” said Wallace. “In this world, an NBA title is more important than getting that gold medal. If I were the Sixers, I definitely would have protested,” said Wallace, whose concern arises from Embiid’s past injuries, including issues with his knee and back, which have previously sidelined him during critical moments of the season.

Joel Embiid’s injuries have been a recurring theme in his career. Embiid’s first game for Philly came two years after he was drafted due to a broken navicular bone in his foot. During the 2016-2017 season, a torn meniscus in his left knee forced him to undergo surgery that resulted in Embiid missing a couple of games that season. Moreover, his back has also been a source of persistent discomfort, affecting his gameplay and availability during the season.

Furthermore, Rasheed Wallace expressed concerns about Embiid’s health as well. “He looks bigger and less agile on the court. The way he’s laboring across the paint, you can see that every step is a struggle. He’s putting more pressure on his joints, and that’s a recipe for more injuries,” exclaimed Wallace on the Sheed & Tyler Show. Such observations align with Embiid’s known challenges, including a torn meniscus and recurring back problems, which could only get worse through age.

In contrast to Joel Embiid, whose Olympic readiness is being overshadowed by concerns around his health, Anthony Davis is showcasing a strong push for the USA starting line-up. Despite past injuries, Davis’ strengths have shone through in pre-Olympic exhibitions. As Team USA prepares for the Olympics, the Sixers are also refining their strategy for the upcoming season. This includes the addition of Paul George, whose partnership with Joel Embiid is crucial for the Sixers’ championship aspirations.

Joel Embiid-Paul George Duo: The Philadelphia 76ers’ last hope?

Paul George’s recent trade to the Sixers greatly increased the team’s dynamics. George’s addition to the roster forms a powerful Big 3 alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. This new line-up is expected to elevate the Sixers’ performance and increase their chances of emerging as the top contenders in the Eastern Conference. “George brings a new level of versatility and experience to the team. His ability to score, defend, and create plays complements Embiid perfectly. This makes the Sixers a formidable opponent,” said Rasheed Wallace.

The synergy between Embiid and George is crucial for the Sixers’ success. Wallace pointed out, “With George in the mix, Embiid doesn’t have to carry the team on his own. This could be a game-changer for Philadelphia.” Additionally, Tyrese Maxey, who has shown significant improvement, is expected to thrive alongside George’s veteran presence.
