NBA fans tend to show off their love for a player in a variety of different ways. Whether it be passionate online debates or screaming at the top of their lungs, the ardent fans find a way. However, one common denominator is the buying of player-specific merchandise. Whether it be jerseys, rookie cards, or signature shoes, NBA fans are not shy about opening up their purses. But, not everyone is as lucky as this Dwyane Wade superfan.

After coughing up a hefty sum towards his fandom over the years, the young man from China got a special opportunity.

They say never meet your heroes

But sometimes, ‘they’ are wrong. In a month where Wade’s name is a celebration as much as a name, a heartwarming incident came to pass in China. While Dwyane owns a large business on Chinese soil, his trips to the country are infrequent.

However, a trip soon after his Hall of Fame coronation was overdue. After all, the country has been producing the signature Wade line, for some 11 years after he ended his ties with Jordan. However, this time around, a special fan was in attendance.

At the Tuen Mun Town Plaza, some 500 people stood waiting for their favorite player. Among them was Dwyane Wade superfan Chris Huang He. A longtime basketball fan, his idolization of the Miami Heat legend began in 2006, right around Wade’s first championship against the Dallas Mavericks.

As he tells the South China Morning Post, that fandom came across in terms of merchandise purchases. Dwyane Wade?s silhouettes have been a fan favourite since the first launch. Priced between 120 USD to 190 USD, these knicks have reached a worldwide audience over the years. Since 2011, Huang has collected over 30 pairs, easily spending over 20,000 Yuan from his pocket.

“I started to like him a lot since the NBA Finals in 2006 ? his basketball resume is so glorious…This was the first time for me to see him in person. I started to collect the first generation of his signature shoe in 2012, and now I have over 30 pairs of them at home.” For Wade, it is the final piece of an illustrious career.

During his career, the 3x Champion has taken on many roles. Whether it was a young prodigy, champion, leader, brother,?husband, or now a Hall of Famer, Wade has taken on many avatars in the 20 years since being drafted 5th overall in 2003.

But, the all-time leader in blocks for guards is finally getting his recognition. As his career as a TV host took off, he received a Hall of Fame induction at the same time. Simultaneously, his business instincts are taking over after becoming an owner of both an NBA and a WNBA franchise.

In the coming years, the sky is the only ceiling for?the Flash.?But, like every other obstacle before him, he aims to zip past it with flying colors. At the event in China, DWade put forth the same idea and mentality. “Dream big, believe in yourself, be prepared, and be committed.”
