Allen Iverson is a style icon. His streetwear fits, off the court, made him stand out. On the court, his iconic headband was copied by people all the time. His effortless style is what makes people like his outfits. Dominating from the get-go, Iverson was looked at as one of the best players in the league by the early 2000s.

With the influence that he had on people, fans always tried to copy and mimic his effortless style. And it’s never a bad thing, as he himself took inspiration from others to create his own style.

Allen Iverson was influenced by others

Iverson’s signature item is the headband. But apart from that, there are many other things that he wore that made him stand out. In a recent interview with GQ, Iverson revealed how he copied legendary athletes to create his style on the court.

His biggest influence was Michael Jordan. Iverson said, “Mike, I mean, I always felt like he looked like a superhero out there“.

He wore an armband after seeing Michael Jordan always play with an armband. He started wearing the sleeve after an injury. But even after he recovered from the injury, he got used to the feeling of playing with it, so he kept it.

But most importantly, he wore black sleeves and black socks. He revealed this was because of Mike Tyson, as he always only wore black in the ring. Tyson said that he wears black because it’s ominous.

During the video, Iverson talks about the influence he had on people. He jokingly said that he is regretful that he did not copyright his AI sleeve as people started wearing them everywhere.

Is Iverson happy with the influence of the style he brought to basketball?

Iverson revealed a few years ago that he never wore a suit to a game because he would not wear a suit to the park. He wanted to change the system. Brands wanted to market a player, but never as who he was. So he wore what he would usually wear in public to the game.

But he feels like his influence has taken over people, and now they portray it to extreme levels. Iverson said that they should implement dress codes now to prevent players from dressing up like it’s Halloween every single day. So Allen Iverson is not too thrilled about how players are dressing up nowadays.
