As competitive as Michael Jordan was, would the 6x NBA champ copy someone else to emerge at the top? As for the gameplay, it has been mostly Mike who has been nothing but a generational inspiration. However, his success was not just confined to the limits of the basketball court. What the 6x NBA champ achieved with his collaboration with Nike is worth studying. But there was an instance when his teammate Dennis Rodman surpassed him in selling sneakers. How do you think His Airness would have reacted?
During a recent episode on Got Sole, Rodman revealed Michael Jordan would talk to him and say “f*ck you”, seemingly in a friendly manner though, for selling more shoes. “He wanted that logo. He wanted that style,” Rodman revealed. Notably, the shoes in discussion are Rodman’s popular association with Nike — Nike Air Shake NDestrukt.
During the episode, Rodman also faced the question of if he ever spoke to Mike about how his shoes were selling more. Though Rodman talked only about Mike’s perspective, in an interview with Complex, he revealed he wanted to tease Mike. “It was so awesome, I wanted to bust Michael’s a** and say, ‘Hey you know Michael, my s**t is outselling yours,” he added.

Yet another interesting fact related to the two players’ sneakers story is that Dennis has never bought a pair of Air Jordans in his life. However, none of this comes from a place of animosity towards one another. The Worm claims he never thought about buying one for himself. “… I don’t hate you, Jordan. I love you to death, man… Love you, brother,” he said.

It is worth mentioning the Jordan’s brand’s collaboration with Travis Scott was one of the most successful outcomes. And one of the most striking and appealing features of the sneakers was said to be the reverse Nike logo on them. Although the reverse branding got associated with Scott, Rodman once claimed that the rapper actually copied his shoe design.
“Travis Scott has copied my shoe. I was the first guy to do mine backward when I was playing with the Chicago Bulls,” he said. Notably, the reports suggest that the first sneakers to feature a reverse Swoosh were — Air Darwin — the first Nike shoe associated with Dennis. The sneakers were designed by Tinker Hatfield and included an air sole unit along with padding around the ankles.

However, the standout feature of the shoes was the reverse swoosh. Basing on the same, Rodman asked Scott for credit for his sneakers. “You copied my shoe. So this ain’t new. This ain’t new, brother. But either way, congratulations,” he added. It seems that Jordan eventually gained success with his intentions of eying on Rodman’s shoe design.
