The NBA’s high-scoring trend last week opened the platform for Gilbert Arenas to look back on his times in the league. Arenas had some career-defining performances. One of his most iconic ones was the 60-point game against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. After Luka Doncic and Joel Embiid dropped a 70-point game in the same week, netizens on social media decided to analyze the defense deeply. A few posts commented on the poor defense in modern NBA and a guest in Arenas’ podcast commented about defenders not taking pride in guarding. Well, Arenas put his 60-point game once again on display to prove her wrong.
Arenas simply believes no one can stop a player in hot form. He shared, “When I’m scoring 60, Kobe’s effort was there. It don’t stop me”. We are all aware of Kobe Bryant’s lockdown defense. The Lakers champion treated every game and every player the same way. So Arenas has a good point to defend his narrative, but hold on! When the Washington Wizards star was questioned, “Did you work for the 60?”, he screamed, “No!”. He did not stop here. Arenas went on to yawn twice to prove that he scored 60 points on the late legend easily.

Arenas was not guarded by Kobe Bryant all game. There were different defenders on him, but he mentioned that he dropped 33 points when the 5-time champion guarded him. He also added, “Kobe tried to guard me as a point guard. Yeah, you’re not stopping me. If is pass the ball and now I gotta come off screen and s*** like that, I’m in your world.” It’s all about being in rhythm for Arenas.
Where did the controversies on defense start from?
The NBA recorded two 70-point games, one 60-point game, and many 40-point games in one week. In especially Doncic’s 73-point game, there were a lot of easy floaters and layups which the fans were not happy about. However, Arenas believes Doncic is a 6’7 guard who cannot be stopped whatsoever. Let’s also not forget how efficient the Mavericks guard was. He was not taking contested shots, nor was he forcing plays. Doncic shot an impeccable 76% in the 33 shots he took, which got him 73 points pretty easily.

Also, he was appreciated for making the right passes in the last few minutes, which sealed the game for the Mavericks. While the internet thinks Doncic was able to do this due to poor defense, Arenas believes it was just his hot form.
