One thing that never gets old in the NBA is the stories of Michael Jordan‘s heroics. We’ve all been amazed on most occasions, just hearing the tales of his greatness. The way he carried himself on the court, and going the extra mile in his head to fuel himself are some of the things that make him who he is. Considered by many to be the greatest to ever do it, Jordan’s footprints are all over the NBA’s history.
Charles Barkley is among the people who have MJ’s witnessed greatness up close not just on the hardwood but also on the greens. He once even revealed a “crazy” story involving MJ and golf. However, Sir Charles himself is someone who is barely decent at the sport. Regardless of the funny nature of his swings, he had made a big promise and is working out plans to improve his game.

The documentary The Last Dance served as a great insight into the mind of the great man. Known for creating imaginary beef just to get the best out of himself, Jordan sure was different. The interesting part about this is that he didn’t care about the opponent before sizing them. It could be a newbie or a legend of the game, if His Airness felt the need to show them their place, it was bound to happen.
Jordan’s old-time golf buddy shared a similar story about the 6x NBA champion. The story from the 1992 Olympics confirms just how determined the billionaire was to cement his position as the greatest ever.
Chuck said that before playing Puerto Rico, some of his teammates, including Jordan and coach Daly, decided to go for a few swings. Upon reaching there, while others planned to play 18 holes, Jordan asked to go for 36. Despite having a game against Puerto Rico that afternoon, the 2x Olympic gold medalist went for 36.
Further, earlier when the team was strategizing their one-on-one game for the basketball showdown, Jordan said, “I got the point guard.” His Airness explained the reason behind this sudden change, “He said some s**t about me in the newspaper and I’m gonna get him.” Sure enough, he put up one hell of a show, clinching a 115-77 victory.
That’s when Barkley realized that MJ was “crazy.”
Charles Barkley’s big promise
Although Chuck is a bonafide legend on the court, his reputation on a golf course is not worth mentioning – especially his hilariously ‘jerking’ swing that puts him at a huge disadvantage. Having played alongside the likes of Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal, Barkley has been feeling the need to up the ante on his golfing skills.
It is not just a bad show that Barkley puts out up the greens – he has also lost a lot of money in the process, including his $50k bet against Chris Webber.
