The Kaseya Center may collectively hate Paul Pierce but it makes no difference to him. In fact, he relishes the hatred he receives from them. Back in the day, the Celtics had garnered quite a reputation for rough play and trash-talk. This resulted in them having a lot of enemies on the court especially when it came to the Miami Heat. Both the teams had their star players who put forth intense playoffs, dramatic moments, and heated exchanges.

Moving on from the hatred that the 2008 NBA Finals MVP has for the Miami Heat, what happened in game 4 can have serious implications for the Celtics moving forward. The Celtics beat the Heat by 14 points with Derrick White scoring his all-time career-high of 38 points in a single game. However, the win did come at a cost to the Celtics, which might leave the team’s fate hanging in Game 5.

The Celtics’ center suffers an injury

Kristaps Porzingis, Boston’s center, exited the playoff game late in the first half. The team later reported that he had right calf tightness. With 2:35 minutes left in the second quarter, Porzingis taking a dribble tried to move to his left and pulled up. He quickly pointed to the Boston bench and was subbed out in the next eight seconds. He left the arena in a walking boot.

According to ESPN, Porzingis is yet to get his imaging done but the initial examinations reveal that he had not suffered an Achilles tendon injury. Amidst the uncertainty that surrounds the injury, the head coach of Celtics Joe Mazzulla, said, “Nothing changes. Bringing the same mindset, intentionality, toughness, details to the next game regardless of who’s available. It doesn’t matter. There’s no difference between the regular season and the playoffs. And all year, we’ve had guys step in and play.”

Paul Pierce might sit back and relax given the Celtics lead. However, the franchise currently faces an injury concern that they need to deal with. Set to host Game 5 on Wednesday, Porzingis’ return to the game is the question that still awaits an answer.
