Did Gilbert Arenas’ fiancée just flip the script? After the former NBA player proposed to Melli Monaco in Paris, the YouTuber reciprocated with the sweetest gesture. Move over, gentlemen. Monaco gave an equally gorgeous engagement ring to Arenas at a club. However, her romantic gesture for her fiancée quickly attracted criticism from the naysayers. But once again, Monaco reminded everyone that she was certainly not the one to mess with. 

The clip of Monaco proposing to Arenas was shared mutually on their respective IG handles. The Shaderoom also posted the video on its Instagram handle. As comments poured in, many criticized Monaco’s proposal as too dramatic, desperate, fake, or merely attention-seeking.

The YouTuber eventually took to social media to clarify her thoughts. “Spoiling your man & showing appreciation are now seen as desperation 🤯 Y’all miserable and/or broke. I’ll be praying for y’all,” Monaco wrote in the comments section.

The YouTuber simply had more romantic plans for her fiancée. In the clip, we see Agent Zero making a face at a sign that reads, “Men wear engagement rings too,” but his expression quickly turns to sheer happiness when Monaco pulls out the ring. He eagerly held out his hand.

As soon as Monaco placed the ring on his finger, he jumped up from the couch to show off the ring to his friends. Arenas’ adorable reaction to the moment received criticism from all corners.

One comment was quite blunt. The netizen thought the gesture was “Tacky.” Another comment felt that Monaco’s action was a bit desperate. Many who were not aware of Monaco and Arenas’ engagement seemed to be confused and were against the idea of women proposing to men. The comment read, “Looks so desperate tho…” Few netizens tried to educate the rest, however, the efforts were in vain.

The two are already engaged and Monaco just wanted to give something special to her fiancee. However, one user thought she should have waited for their wedding at least. “They’re already engaged 😭 she could’ve waited til the wedding tho.” 

Another netizen criticized her gesture by saying, “absolutely positively negative!” while another comment asked women to stop doing what Monaco did and wrote, “Ladies please don’t do this it’s giving Masculine energy.”

Arenas had first popped the question to his girlfriend in Paris with a big diamond ring. Even then, the Washington Wizards star faced criticism because he had once swapped his ex’s diamond ring with a fake one. But this time, it was real.

For long, it’s been the norm for men to get down on one knee to propose, which is exactly what Gilbert Arenas did by going all the way to Paris for the special moment. However, things have changed now. Later, Monaco did something similar to show her appreciation, and she made it quite clear in her comment. We only hope that the naysayers get the answer.
