If you’re a Minnesota fan, Monday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies probably felt like deja vu. Yes, once again, the Wolves had a late lead and were in a great position to walk away with a win. But just like the last time these two teams met, the Wolves stumbled when it mattered most, losing 108-106 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis. NBA legend Charles Barkley, meanwhile, didn’t hold back on his postgame critique.
And in complete honesty, the former NBA star has got a point. “I did not like this last play at all… I did not like Minnesota’s last play… This is not even a good shot, I hated that shot,” Barkley said, highlighting Anthony Edwards’ missed three-pointer in the final seconds. Ernie Johnson chimed in, “Comes up empty at 32 on the night,” putting Edwards’ performance into perspective.
The criticism comes despite the fact that Ant-Man has been rapidly climbing the scoring leaderboard of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Drafted by the Wolves as the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, Edwards has already reached the 4th spot in the Wolves’ all-time scoring list. The only names above him are Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Kevin Garnett. It seems, however, that it all fades when you miss for your team in a crucial moment.

Let’s set the scene for that final play. With just 5.0 seconds left on the clock, Edwards had a chance to seal the win. Julius Randle inbounded the ball to him, and Edwards made a quick move to the wing. But with Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. closing in, Edwards launched a contested three-pointer. The shot didn’t just miss—it barely grazed the front of the rim as the buzzer sounded.
Now, don’t get us wrong. Ant-Man was phenomenal for most of the game. He scored a game-high 32 points, attacked the basket relentlessly, and earned frequent trips to the free-throw line. Moreover, in those clutch moments, it wasn’t just Edwards who struggled. The Wolves’ fourth-quarter unraveling was a team-wide effort.

It started with a foul on Bane after a defensive rebound, giving Memphis two free throws to tie the game at 100. Then came a series of costly mistakes: Naz Reid’s travel right after a timeout, Rudy Gobert’s turnover following an offensive rebound, and missed opportunities to close things out. Thus handing the win to Ja Morant-led Grizzlies. Someone for whom, Barkley was worried about ahead of the game.
Charles Barkley’s biggest concern for Ja Morant
Before Monday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Barkley shared a concern many Ja Morant fans can relate to. Chuck pointed out that Ja’s fearless approach to attacking the rim might be his biggest threat. He’s got to “quit trying to dunk on people,” Barkley said, warning that this aggressiveness could lead to injuries.

Even Ja, previously, seemed to agree. The Grizzlies star had earlier admitted that going for highlight-reel dunks sometimes sidelines him with avoidable injuries. “I’m not trying to dunk at all. Y’all think I’m lying. I’m dead serious…” he said and then went on to Posterize Victor Wembanyama.
Even though it didn’t count as it came after the whistle, the dunk was no less than a visual spectacle. But a big concern for Morant fans, including Charles Barkley it seems. The concern, however, for now, seems to have shifted from Morant to Anthony Edwards’ 3-point shooting.
