Hall of Fame induction is possibly one of the biggest achievements in the basketball community. This year’s list of candidates elected for HoF includes 14 names. While there is a name like Jerry West on the list, looking for the third time induction, there are players like Chauncey Billups, who have been possibly dreaming of this highest honor for a long time now.
And this dream has finally come true for the ex-NBA star. He has been elected to be inducted into the HoF this year. Speaking at a press conference, Chauncey stated he could not even dream of becoming this big despite being an NBA champion and an All Star. “As you get there and you start, you know, becoming an all star year after year after year. And you win a championship, you know, you start thinking about that’s (HoF) the ultimate… I call it basketball heaven if you will,” he said.
Notably, Chauncey got selected among the 14 finalists from various committees. As per a release by NBA, the committees include North American, Women’s, Men’s Veterans, Women’s Veterans, International, and Contributors. The final names of the inductees will be announced on NCAA men’s championship final game on April 6. And from what Chauncey Billups has said further at the conference, it seems he really wants to make it through.

The ex-Detroit Pistons star defines this moment as unbelievable. He recollected how he has been his entire basketball career and how it helped him reach this point. “I played the right way with it… never chased stats… tried to play for my team. And as a point guard, make everybody better and everything good happened to me because of that,” Chauncey stated.
Chauncey Billups: From Mr. Colorado Basketball to Naismith Memorial Basketball HoF
The college basketball set a firm ground for Chauncey’s NBA career. He played in college for Colorado Buffaloes and received Mr. Colorado Basketball award three times in a row. The award recognizes the best high school basketball player in the state of Colorado. Notably, he was the first player to receive this award, which continues to date.

However, these awards may dwarf down in comparison to his NBA achievements. As an NBA player, Chauncey made 5 All Star appearances. And not only did he win an NBA championship with Pistons in 2004, he also received the 2004 NBA Finals MVP award.
The ex-Pistons’ star now has almost reached what he considers ‘Basketball Heaven’, with the opportunity of HoF induction on April 6. What are your views on this? Do you think Chauncey Billups rightfully deserve this honor? Let us know your views in the comments.
