From the snubbing of Isiah Thomas in the 1992 Dream Team to Deandre Jordan’s free agency incident last year, the NBA has seen many disrespectful moments. And now just weeks before the start of the most anticipated 2024-2025 season, Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has bomb shelled another instance regarding the disrespect. However, one of the Milwaukee Bucks’ players has a different answer for him.

Patrick Beverly has given a totally new perspective on Barkley’s comments. In the latest episode of “The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone” podcast when Rone asked if the Celtics were being disrespected Beverly shared his own opinion. “I’m just telling about the LeBron, I’m just talking about that category of the Lebron’s, the Stephs, the KD. As long as those guys are continuing to play in the NBA, they always, their names always gonna overshadow the Jaylen Browns and the Jayson Tatums, no matter what.

According to him, the Bolton Celtics have been a dominant team for the past few years. They won last year’s championship, clinched the Division title in 2023, and also the Conference Title in 2022. However, fans would still talk about the greats like LeBron James because of what they have done in the past for the country (won 3 gold medals in the Olympics) and also for their team (became a champion with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.)

But what did Charles Barkley really say? In a recent episode of ‘The Bill Simmons’ podcast, the former Philadelphia 76ers player mentioned that the NBA was not kind to two of its players this summer. “I don’t think…. maybe Isiah Thomas was treated unfairly on the dream team, but I cannot think of any other scenario where the NBA pissed off two players more than they did this summer with Jayson and Jalen,” said the former power forward during the podcast.

We all know what happened in 1992 with Isiah Thomas and Team USA. The Detroit Pistons player at that time had been excluded from the Dream Team apparently due to a feud with NBA legend Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. The 61-year-old tried to make a connection with the current incident. According to him, Tatum, who averaged 26.9 PPG, 8.1 RPG, 4.9 APG, and Brown, who averaged 23 PPG, 5 RPG, 3.6 APG, and helped the Boston Celtics team to clinch the 2023-2024 NBA championship, weren’t done justice as they did not become a part of the US National Team for the 2024 Olympics. Moreover, Tatum belonged to the roster but was still benched by coach Steve Kerr in two of six games.

In the end, whether one sides with Barkley’s view of disrespect or Beverley’s perspective, one thing is clear: the conversation about respect, recognition, and representation in the NBA is far from over. However, apart from just giving his perspective on Barkley’s comments, the Bucks point guard also talked about a new possibility in his podcast.

The NBA is always looking for ways to innovate and make the game more exciting for fans. One of the latest ideas being floated around according to Patrick Beverly is the addition of a 4-point line. The 4-point line would be located beyond the 3-point line, and it would be worth 4 points if a player makes a shot from there.

In the latest episode of “The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone” Beverly and Rone were discussing about the Philippines Basketball league when the Bucks player shared that the NBA could experiment with a new strategy. “I don’t put it past the NBA. They like to try things, they like to shake s**t up. They might try it for a year to see how it works and then go back,” said Beverly during his podcast.

The point guard also insisted that NBA, if they ever decide to try out this new rule, should go with the G-league first. The Philipines Basketball Association started the 4-point line method in July of this year. The WNBA had also tried this during a 2022 All-Star game. The 4-point will eventually be a new challenge for the players as it will help the players score more points, but at the same time, scoring will become difficult as it has to be done from a long distance. Only time will tell when it gets added to the league. And just when the story of not acknowledging new talents finally ends.
