Charles Barkley’s return—Is he the heart and soul of 'Inside the NBA'?

Charles Barkley went on a rant against the WBD executives and even announced his retirement. Later, he also slammed the NBA, and the commissioner Adam Silver for not caring about the fans. Eventually, he called off his retirement and chose to continue with his $210 million, 10-year contract. But, what led to changes in his retirement plan? Recently, Barkley spoke about the key factors that led to this decision.

Appearing on the Dan Patrick Show, Charles Barkley said that last week, the executives flew down to Philly to meet him. And once they reached there, they had one positive news about the 76ers legend. “We’re going to keep doing the show,” Barkley said. The news initially puzzled him, but he was ready to even take a pay cut for his Turner family.

I said, ‘Hey, y’all know my number one priority is to keep people working at Turner.’ That’s always been my number one priority and Dan, they said they ‘gonna keep doing the show.’ And I said, ‘I’ll take a pay cut.’ I said I’ll take a pay cut they said ‘That’s not necessary,‘” Barkley said, via the Dan Patrick Show.

However, Barkley was still unclear about the path ahead. “I don’t have any idea what that means.” His main concern was always about the people losing their jobs. So, with the show being guaranteed to run, people won’t have to worry, as per Charles Barkley. But, he also clarified that for now, he has agreed to the contract, but that doesn’t guarantee anything for the future.

Dan Patrick also asked him about the format of the show and whether it would be a daily sports show. The 11x NBA All-Star quickly said it won’t be a daily show. And he doesn’t want to spend that much time on TV.

Future of Charles Barkley and the Inside Show revealed?

Recently, TNT acquired the rights to the French Open for 10 years. Yes, the Roland-Garros would be exclusive to the Turner network starting from 2025. Charles Barkley, in the interview with Dan Patrick, was also open about the idea of taking up the French Open. Turner Sports CEO Luis Silberwasser also said in a statement that they were open to other shows post the NBA.

Although the Turner Network hasn’t clearly stated their plans to Barkley, he still might have hinted about the future. Sir Charles has been the only one from the core of Inside the NBA show to talk about the future. According to industry experts, TNT would have to negotiate with Shaquille O’Neal the same way they did with Barkley.
