Watching Shaq and Chuck make fun of each other never gets boring. While Shaquille O’Neal never backs down from taking shots at people. This time around, his friend Charles Barkley took a direct hit at him. As many tuned in to watch the LPGA and PGA Tour crossover at the charity golf event The Match by Capital One, the TNT hosts clearly did not dial it down when it came to entertaining the viewers.

On Capital One’s “The Match,” Chuck’s co-host discussed the German word “Nilpferd.” When he got to know it translated to a Nile Hippopotamus, he didn’t flinch for a second and uttered, “I know a hippopotamus, he works on TNT on Thursday nights.”

The 2024 edition became the first mixed-gender edition of the event and just like previous years, all the money raised will be donated to charity. This time, all the profits will go to the organization “First Tee.” The youth development organization aims to make every aspect of the gentleman’s game affordable and accessible for young kids. Further empowering the youth through the game of golf.

For the first time, LPGA stars Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang teed it off at the event alongside their PGA Tour counterparts, Rory McIlroy and Max Homa. The 12-hole event followed the ‘skins format,’ wherein each hole had a particular amount associated with it. In the end, it was the Northern Irishman who ended up emerging victorious, as he was able to raise the most funds by the end of the event.

Apart from Charles Barkley, there will be many other big names present on the green. Which included the likes of former professional players of various sports: Christina Kim and Trevor Immelman from golf and Paul Bissonette of Canadian ice hockey. Additionally, popular sportscasters Ernie Johnson and Kathryn Tappen and music creator DJ Khaled will also be at The Park. Let us check out Barkley’s history with the fund-raising event.

Charles Barkley in “The Match”

Golf has been one of the boasting talents of the NBA legend for over a decade now. In fact, he has earlier played at The Park in West Palm Beach. For a recap, Charles Barkley, after being labeled as the ugliest swinger in golf, made a comeback in the 2020 edition. During The Match: Champions for Change, he teamed up with the professional LIV golfer Phil Mickelson. They won their game against Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and former NFL legend Peyton Manning. After the match, Charles surely waved away the earlier comments made on his swings.

Chuck’s playful jab at Shaq might just be the start of a fun to-and-fro banter between the two iconic basketball players.
