“He just being trying sh*t During the game. UNBELIEVABLE.” Just a week ago, Melli Moncao was hyping up Alijah’s performance. But life completely changed since the 18-year-old’s crash that sent the NBA community into a frenzy. However, the son of Gilbert Arenas and his former partner, Laura Govan, has been on the mend ever since. Now we have Monaco to provide us with more positive updates.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, Alijah Arenas was driving a Cybertruck, which dashed into a fire hydrant and a tree. The onlookers rescued and pulled him out of the car as the vehicle was on fire. Laura Govan, the mother of Alijah, simply asked for continuous prayers to deal with the situation. “I need all youre fuc–ng prayers 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼.” Plus, the reports about the five-star recruit in an induced coma only added more panic to the situation. But that was a mere protocol.
The reason behind Arenas’ induced coma was due to smoke inhalation from the fire caused by the accident. Later, the family updated, “In a remarkable and hopeful development, Alijah Arenas has come out of his coma and has shown significant signs of progress within the last 24 hours.” Even in his fragile state, the USC commit’s first concern was for others. The statement from the family revealed that he opened his eyes and, though unable to speak, wrote on a piece of paper: “Did anyone get hurt?”

After this, Moncao took to Instagram story to update about the situation. She first added, “Thank you for all THE LOVE 🫶🏾 & THE PRAYERS the baby is doing good.” The photo was of her and Alijah, where both of them were seen smiling. In another story, she added, “I just know the comeback About to be 🗣️CRAAAAZY.” This was the previous photo from the sidelines when the son of Gilbert Arenas was on the court.
Potential reasons come to light about what caused the incident for Gilbert Arenas’ son
The first major positive update that came on the day of the crash was that Alijah did not suffer any broken bones. Since the impact of the crash was so brutal, it was a miracle that the Chatsworth High School player had no major injuries. Reports from the LA Times indicate that drugs and alcohol were not involved and were not responsible for the crash. So what exactly made the crash so disastrous?
TMZ Sports reports that law enforcement believes speed played the biggest role. To put it into perspective, depending on the model, Elon Musk’s Cybertruck can blast from 0 to 60 MPH in just 2.6 seconds. Law enforcement believes that the car crash, made worse by a “young driver and a fast vehicle.” Fortunately, “there’s no criminal investigation underway,” authorities confirmed.
Ever since the crash, all the family members have been praying and thanking everybody who prayed for Alijah Arenas. Gilbert Arenas’ 15-year-old thanked the community for the emotional support. “Thank you guys so much for the prayers it means a lot to us. I’ll get back to everyone as soon as I can!!❤️” Hamiley Arenas, a basketball prodigy herself, wrote the update on Instagram.
