“We were never married… our relationship today is the same as it was 12 years ago. It’s actually gotten worse.” In an interview with Carlos King, Laura Govan clarified her relationship status with ex-Gilbert Arenas. She admitted they were never married, and are now co-parenting their 4 children. Now the former Warriors star, spills his side of the story, especially when it comes to raising his son, Alijah.
Being a 3x All-Star and now seeing his son forging a path to the league, Gilbert Arenas certainly takes pride in that. Despite the previous drama with Govan, Agent Zero found a silver lining. “It stopped me from you know when we go through situations with you know our exes and stuff and it’s easy to quit. ‘like I’m good. I don’t want to deal with this problem, it ain’t worth it.‘” Not caring for his children could have been an option, but because of his father’s parenting methods, the former Wizards star did not quit.
“That never registered because the example was a guy who raised me like he was a single father. So that’s all I knew him being there, like him taking me to every game, him buying food, him hustling.” The only reason the question arose on The Pivot Podcast was because Gilbert Arenas gave props to his father for not letting him feel any struggle. “Like you know, like if you’re a great parent, your kids don’t feel you know the struggle. And I didn’t feel it.”

Speaking about struggle, even Laura Govan had a lot to say about her ex. “Because now he uses the children. Because now he knows how to manipulate it because he can’t directly bother me right so he knows how much I love my children but here’s the thing, he also knows is that I love my children more than I hate him so he attacks the motherhood side of it.”
Later, she also explained that she never disrespected Arenas’ role as a father. “Gilbert, play fair. I’ve always given you the title of fatherhood; I’ve never taken it away.” Maybe that’s why recently they both were at a game recently.

Not just Alijah, Gilbert Arenas and Laura Govan put their differences aside for another kid
When their daughter, Izela, and her team faced off against the Colorado Buffaloes, Agent Zero was courtside. Even Govan was in the arena cheering the Louisville Cardinals #24. “Stand up Lou we in colorado trying to get kicked out 😂😂😂.” Gilbert Arenas added to his Instagram story shortly after the game ended.

Even the TV personality Laura Govan added a sweet Instagram story, celebrating with Izela. Naturally, the question would arise if the two former partners exchanged any words. At the time, it is unclear if the two spoke while their daughter finished with impressive numbers. 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, with 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.
So, there might have been a couple of issues back in the day, but today they are projecting a united front to raise their 4 children. With Alijah Arenas reclassifying for the 2025 class, and Izela balling out with the Cardinals, Gilbert Arenas is not letting the previous issue creep in today.
