Gilbert Arenas has shared many controversial takes on his podcast, but his comments on Stephen Curry not being a generational player might have taken a hit at his reputation as an analyst. The Wizards icon’s explanation for the above take is considered to be quite bizarre by social media users. Not just the fans on the internet, but Matt Barnes also believes Arenas’ comment on Curry did not make sense. However, Arenas is not willing to change his take. Rather, he decided to give a detailed explanation once again, to prove why he believes Curry is not generational.
On Gil’s Arena, host Josiah Johnson asked Arenas about teams that have won without a generational talent. The Washington Wizards star revealed, “Steph is not a generational talent. Wemby [Wembanyama] is a generational person. Generational means you can’t mimic it. Can you mimic Magic Johnson? 6’9 guard with a vision. No! Can you mimic Shaquille O’Neal’s body? You can’t mimic f****** LeBron James.”
These words from Arenas left Josiah Johnson in denial, who shared a hilarious reaction out of disbelief. Surprisingly, Lakers icon Matt Barnes took notice of this and pin-pointed Johnson’s reaction to make his case against Arenas. He commented, “@kingjosiah54 the look you had on your face was correct!!! They trippin”.

Arenas was not done, however. He commented on the same post, “Generational ppl are (physical) from birth…Joe chestnut (body doesn’t digest like everyone else…”Dean Karnazes” can run without getting tired, body doesn’t seize up, its what ur born with GOD GIFTED “Wemby, Bron, Shaq, Wilt” etc.” Curry might not be a generational player for Gilbert Arenas, but he gave him the tag, “Generational game changer”.
Gilbert Arenas’ take has one fair point and one flaw
Arenas believes generational talent is purely based on physical traits, which is why he went on to give examples like Victor Wembanyama, LeBron James, and Wilt Chamberlain, who were blessed with a unique physique. Curry might be an exception when it comes to this because his stature varies notably against stars aforementioned.

However, he also makes a point, “Generational means you can’t mimic it“. Fans have pointed this out because they don’t believe the Golden State Warriors shooter can be replicated. Curry set an example in the NBA for changing the game with his stellar shooting.
It’s safe to say that it’s going to take a lot of seasons and years for a player like Curry to step foot in the NBA once again. Who knows, we might not even see another one. Curry might not have a generational physique, but fans believe that has not stopped him from becoming a generational player. At this point, it looks like Arenas is standing alone, with no support on his side.
