The WNBA All-Star game was historic! We witnessed archenemies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese team up for the first time. Even more phenomenal was Arike Ogunbowale who scored 34 points, trumping the Women’s Olympic team. Loyal WNBA followers might already know that for Team USA, there hasn’t been much change. Yet again, the Olympic team faced a dramatic defeat at the hands of Ogunbowale. And NBA legend Gilbert Arenas seemed quite baffled by the entire situation.
Agent Zero didn’t hold back while criticizing the players who got defeated not once but twice. Explaining the game, he stated how only one team was motivated in the All-Star. He appeared to be hinting at the Team WNBA who had Clark, Reese, Kelsey Mitchell, Ogunbowale, and more. He further argued that it was obvious for a player to put up a fiery performance after getting snubbed from the Olympic team.
“Let’s just be honest, this was kind of like your chance to prove you guys were the best, right? You guys are proven that you guys are the best and every time the girls who get snubbed feel so angry they come and whoop your ass every single time which clearly says you guys are not the best,” Arenas said, via No Chill Gil.

The Washington Wizards legend further added, “I know only one team was motivated, the girls who feel they got jaded.”
He might have been talking about Ogunbowale. The Dallas Wings star was snubbed during the selection for Team USA for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Going into the All-Star Game that year, she claimed the MVP title. She scored 26 points contributing to a 93-85 win over Team USA. But, Arenas was not the only one with the praises.

After withdrawing her name for the Olympics consideration this year, Ogunbowale was named the MVP in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game. This explains Arenas’ statement.

This is her 6th year in the pro league. Her All-Star game performance has received plaudits from the entire basketball world. NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes also had praises for the Dallas Wings star. “Yo! @Arike_O is hoopin hooping,” Mahomes wrote on X.

Gilbert Arenas is right—where was the heart and hustle from Team USA in that embarrassing loss?
Have an interesting take?
The star players of Team USA undoubtedly put up a great battle. While A’ja Wilson scored 22 points, Breanna Stewart had 31, however, fell short of Ogunbowale’s record. As mentioned before, the rookies were incredible too.
Clark contributed 4 points while Bayou Barbie hit 12 points. Reese set a record for being the first WNBA rookie to record a double-double in an All-Star game and on the other hand, Clark set a rookie record with 10 assists. It was truly a groundbreaking performance by the team.
