Gilbert Arenas’ son, Alijah, is following in the footsteps of his father, but is he on his way to surpassing him? He is sure if his mother and Gil’s ex-girlfriend Laura Govan’s words are taken into consideration. The 17-year-old so far played for Chatsworth High School, but soon he will move towards college basketball.

According to the information given by Govan to TMZ Sports, the high school basketball player already has offers from multiple colleges. And the information available on 247Sports also confirms Govan’s claim. The website states Alijah has offers from Alabama Crimson, Arizona Wildcats, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Kansas Jayhawks among many others.

As for his stats in high school, Maxpreps states the 17-year-old averaged 31.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in his 62 games through the two seasons he played for Chatsworth. This makes it clear why Gilbert Arenas’ eldest son is not short of offers from different colleges. This includes Gil’s own alma mater, Arizona Wildcats as well.

However, Laura Govan has already made it clear to TMZ Sports that there is no surety of Alijah following his father’s path and committing to the Wildcats. “The conclusion is wherever is best suited and fit for him… This isn’t the Gilbert Arenas story, this is the Alijah Arenas story. It’s his turn to pave his way, do his own thing, and have it how he wants to have it,” she said. But the question is how long before Alijah surpasses his father in terms of gameplay?

Govan claimed Alijah is already beating Gilbert Arenas in 1 v 1

The mother of the 17-year-old stated any amount of highlights for her son’s gameplay would not justify how good he is. Meanwhile, she also took the moment to pat herself on the back for raising him like this, while giving a shout-out to Chris Paul and Jason Kidd for helping out.

On being asked if Alijah can beat his father in a one-on-one, she replied, “Hell yeah, you kidding me? F*** outta here.” Now, some may take age into consideration as a factor that could obviously favor Alijah over his 42-year-old father.

However, Alijah breaking his father’s 50-point high school record is yet another fact that supports Govan’s claim. The high-school basketball star scored 53 points against Washington Prep, leading Chatsworth to a 74-69 regional semifinal win. According to 247 sports, he is the third-best player in the class of 2026 and the top shooting guard. Now all that is left for his next step in his career is committing to a college of his preference.
