Is Derrick Rose deserving of the Hall of Fame honor? The Chicago Bulls celebrated the 3x NBA All-Star’s legacy during a halftime ceremony in a game between the Bulls and Knicks. The retired NBA player was in tears when the team announced its decision to retire his jersey. This has also raised questions about whether he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame and Agent Zero seemingly had a strong point in the argument.

In the latest episode of Gil’s Arenas podcast, the crew discussed Rose’s eligibility. While the former Bulls player’s MVP win makes a strong case, Gilbert Arenas presented stats that might seemingly put Rose’s chances of getting inducted into the Hall of Fame in question.

Arenas discussed the Basketball Reference Hall of Fame Probability list and highlighted that he is ranked 159th with a 0.2165 probability. He said that he is not a Hall of Famer. Speaking of the former Bulls player, Arenas noted that Rose is ranked 184th with a 0.1052 probability. “(In the ) MVP list of people who supposed to be the probability. I’m number 159 with my career. Derrick Rose is 184,” he argued.

However, his stats were quickly challenged by Rashad McCants, who argued that Rose has an edge since there are no NBA MVP winners who aren’t inducted into the Hall of Fame. Arenas countered it with, “How many of those Hall of Famer that won MVPs wanted that early in their career and didn’t have another one?” Do you think Arenas is right about his opinion on Rose’s Hall of Fame potential?

Derrick Rose doesn’t want his statue

In the halftime ceremony at the United Center, Rose was honored as the players on both teams wore shirts featuring the numbers 1, 4, and 25. These are the numbers Rose flaunted for the Bulls, Knicks, and his high school during his basketball career.

In a conversation with ESPN’s Shams Charania, Rose had previously expressed his wish to have his jersey retired. However, when the topic of a statue came up, he seemed reluctant. “The way people have been creating these statues, I don’t want a statue. No statue. Jerry (Reinsdorf), no statue. Please, Michael (Reinsdorf) , no statue,” he added.

What’s your perspective on:

Does Derrick Rose's MVP win alone justify a Hall of Fame induction despite his injury setbacks?

Have an interesting take?

As Arenas mentioned, Rose won the Rookie of the Year award in 2009 and became the youngest player to win the MVP honor at 22 in the 2010-11 season. Rose’s former teammate, Joakim Noah during his appearance at the Run It Back podcast said, “The most humble superstar out there, and just the way he (Rose) represented Chicago every time he stepped out there was unreal… Hall of Famer for sure.”

Unfortunately, Rose couldn’t maintain consistency due to his injuries. His ACL tear in 2012 caused significant harm. Do you think Rose should be in the HOF conversation? What is your take on Arenas’ claim?
