“Get Him Some Help”: Trae Young’s 1 Trait Turns People Against Him, NBA Veteran Reveals

An impressive stat line with consistency, 2nd in the league in assists, and yet hated by fans — that’s Trae Young for you. While some claim his brash nature to be an issue, some fail to understand the core reason. But the fact of the matter is that Young does not garner much positive response for himself. And the most recent one to weigh in on this is former NBA star Kenyon Martin. 

In a recent episode of Gil’s Arena, Martin spotlighted the fact that it is not always the players’ fault. Moreover, the numbers have been with Trae Young ever since he came in, Martin emphasized. “He’s a problem for people because they dislike him for whatever reason because he’s out there bussin’ a** and letting you know about it and he’s unapologetic about it. So get him some help,” Martin said. 

It is worth mentioning that from the first season itself, Trae Young has had a decently impressive stat line where he averaged 19.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game. And he maintained consistency, which his career stat line so far reflects. Notably, in his 6 seasons so far, he has averaged 25.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game. But this alone, so far, has not been enough to make him one of the fan favorites in the league.   

In fact, some of the NBA stars are also usually puzzled by this hate against the Atlanta Hawks star. One such instance was Quentin Richardson’s appearance on ‘The OGs’ podcast. And even he raised the question during the show why Trae Young is not in the good books of NBA fans. “I feel like Trae Young get disrespected… Why Y’all think they don’t f*ck with Trae Young no more?… He’s second in the league in assists. He’s got good statistics but I feel like they don’t f*ck with him no more…” he stated on the podcast.

Trae Young’s opinion of the hate he gets from the fans

It is worth mentioning that the most hate Young has received is from the fanbase of the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks. The former is said to have been on the list since 2021 when Young put up a 30-point performance against the Knicks and bowed at MSG, silencing the most renowned arena as Hawks denied the team an entry beyond the quarterfinals. 

And during his appearance on Gils Arena back in 2023, he stated how he resonates with Kevin Durant over all the hate that he faces from fans. “I look at those like boo’s and FU chants… Overrated, like, you ain’t saying I’m overrated unless I’m actually doing something on the court. So like, I use that as a sign of respect for sure,” he said on the podcast.

He further stated that he knows a lot of Oklahoma fans will be mad if he said it, “But I looked up to KD a lot like, to see him go through all the stuff he went through when he left (OKC) and coming back. I was at that game, when everybody in the arena wearing cupcakes.” Notably, KD faced severe lash-back from OKC fans when he left the franchise to join their rivals, the Golden State Warriors.
