The combo of Shaq and Chuck guarantees a laugh. You could scroll through the Inside the NBA rabbit hole on the online NBA community and come across that joke about Charles Barkley not being caught with onion rings because Shaq would say that’s the only ring he got. Chuck could be talking about the weather and Shaq would say the skies were clear every time he won his four rings. That’s Shaquille O’Neal’s favorite (and maybe the only) comeback to anything Sir Charles says. Everyone’s noticed it, but former NBA star Blake Griffin only makes it funnier.

Griffin and Barkley had a love-hate player-analyst relationship but you can see where the Clippers star’s loyalties lie between the two TNT legends during an appearance on Stavvy’s World. The subject of how Charles Barkley is not only one of the greatest players not to win a ring but is also popular outside of basketball came up. The host mentioned how Shaq brings up championship rings in every argument on TNT, which made Griffin pull out his hidden talent – uncanny impressions of Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley.

From Shaq’s gruff mumbling to Chuck’s long-winded sentence filler like, “Alright, Shaq, let me tell you something,” the voices and tone were spot on. Viewers under the video started campaigning for Griffin’s alternate career in comedy. He could even threaten Shaq’s spot in the entertainment space, especially if O’Neal doesn’t come up with something new.

Griffin was so done with Shaq’s only rebuttal to Chuck being, “well you don’t got no more, you don’t got no rings.” And yes, he said it in the perfect hoarse Shaq voice. But he has a grievance with the 4x NBA champion. “Can we get him a writer to like get something else?” Griffin asked on Stavvy’s World podcast.

To be clear, Griffin has uninhibited admiration for both. As someone who’s not won a championship himself and has a good chance to get into the Hall of Fame, he doesn’t believe that a chip changes life before or after the NBA. And Sir Charles is proof.

Team Charles Barkley fights back

When Griffin was playing for the Clippers, Chuck was especially hard on him from the TNT studio. They never had any public interactions but they beefed with indirect jabs in the media. Griffin was especially upset in 2014 when Chuck commented that besides dunking, he was only good at commercials.

That same dunking skill came in handy when Chuck and Shaq were a united front against Kendrick Perkins recently. When they were not reminding Perk that Griffin posterized him, they traded jabs at each other’s championship history. Shaq’s response to Chuck saying, “Shaq you’ve been swept five times,” was, “Still got four more rings than you baby!” When TNT pointed out that Shaq’s rebounding stat fell behind Chuck’s, Shaq said, “I got four rings to show for it.”

Barkley does troll him right back. After that previous jab, Chuck lit him with the “overrated” label. He even claimed Shaq won his fourth ring riding on Dwyane Wade’s coattails and that jab actually stung. Should Shaq stop provoking Chuck with the same old line or should Griffin get into comedy full-time, which is a greater possibility?
