At 41, she knew exactly what she wanted, or so she thought. But once she stepped into NYC’s iconic Kleinfeld bridal salon and met designer Dennis Basso, everything changed.

“Like most brides to be, Gabrielle came in with her stylist Jason Bolden with a clear vision,” Basso told PEOPLE. “But everything changed when she tried on gowns!” Originally, Union envisioned a dress that was sleek and sexy which could highlight her figure. But as she explored different styles, her priorities evolved. “She wanted to be surprising,” Basso explained. Instead of simply accentuating her silhouette, they crafted something even more striking, a strapless gown with a high slit and intricate, handcrafted details.

About the crafting of the dress, Basso said, “We literally built the entire bodice and corset specifically for her”.”The entire dress is hand-beaded with pearls and crystals…The material was flown in from Italy.” In the end, Gabrielle’s wedding dress was nothing like what she had originally imagined, but it turned out to be exactly what she needed.
