Gilbert Arenas is a retired NBA veteran who never won a championship during his NBA career. However, he is a 3x NBA All-Star guard who could shoot three-pointers, mid-range jumpers, and drive to the basket at will.

Gilbert Arenas Erupts in Kobe Bryant Rant
In a recent ?Gil?s Arena? podcast episode, Gilbert Arenas talks about how the media has negatively impacted basketball culture in the NBA.?
He says this about the media, ?The accolades that you use to put players above other players, why should we trust them? Why should we trust any of your metrics or any of your accolades and care about them if you guys are tweaking it for who you like at the moment in time.?
He further explains by giving the late Kobe Bryant?s example, ?When Kobe had his and you didn?t want ?individuals? thinking like him?so you purposely give it someone else. And you know, when you look at history. Why should we trust any of it??.

Gilbert Arenas claims that the ?biased? media is ?purposely protecting the past and altering the future?you are messing up the game.? The 3x All-Star concludes by stating that a player should be judged on the basis of the era he played in, not based on the accolades he received because the accolades are highly ?biased? and are based on random factors off the court.

Gilbert Arenas mentions in the same podcast episode, ?You (the media) are altering history but using history as a measuring stick and that?s the s**t I don?t like. Like if the person in their era did what they did, you judge them by their era.? Arenas then gives the example of how the media does not want to give ?these MVPs? because ?it?ll be too close to MJ?s (Michael Jordan)?.

In recent times, sports media has become mainly about selling a narrative that will attract more potential NBA fans to spend their money. The NBA organization also has a role to play in ensuring that the multi-billion dollar empire continues to function smoothly, and one way they ensure that is through the NBA accolades.
Today, NBA fans give immense importance to individual accolades to determine the greatness of an NBA player. According to Arenas, the ?biased? media and the NBA organization appear to give awards to players who are ?good for the business?.
