In 5 days span, the Lakers have lost three straight games. In fact, it’s the second consecutive game where they have let the opposition score 127 points. Obviously, the analysts certainly had their share of criticism for the Purple and Gold franchise. One of them was Charles Barkley, who was more upset because LeBron James’ failure meant Chuck lost his parlay. But even before the game, the 76ers legend took a shot at King James while praising his former best friend Michael Jordan.
While discussing the parlay before the game, Charles Barkley was confident that LeBron would score more than 25 points. During that tip-off segment, Ernie Johnson would provide a stat that the Lakers superstar was trailing Michael Jordan in one category. EJ mentioned that LeBron was four 30-point performances away from surpassing the Bulls legend. It was enough for Chuck to prove his point.
“See, that’s an amazing stat. I don’t get into the debate about greatness, so LeBron has played how many more seasons than Michael Jordan and he’s still behind him? That’s crazy.” Charles Barkley continued, “Listen, I love LeBron, but for him to be behind MJ even if he’s played, what eight more seasons? Come on, man, you all need to stop this.”

The 11x All-Star wants people to stop the GOAT debate since Michael Jordan is ahead in certain stats. LeBron did not score 30 points or more to reduce the gap, in fact, he failed to reach 25 points. The reason the 25 mark is important is that Chuck placed a bet for King James to score more than 25. And the bet also involved Kevin Durant scoring more than 25 points. But both players fell short, meaning Charles Barkley lost again and went off.
“Yo man, is it my fault LeBron’s a bum? Everybody did good except LeBron right? Wait, it’s my fault LeBron can’t get 25 points? You mean the greatest scorer in NBA history can’t get me 25 points?” It’s not the first time that Chuck questioned the Lakers star. One such notable instance was back in 2010.

At the time, LeBron was yet to win his first championship. After the infamous ‘The Decision’, there was a lot of heat on the Akron native for choosing the Miami franchise. The fans of Cleveland certainly hated it, and during the press conference, he enthusiastically said, “Not one, not two, not three” about the trophies he would win with the newly formed Big 3.
“There would have been something honorable about staying in Cleveland and trying to win it as ‘The Man’… LeBron, if he would’ve won in Cleveland, and if he could’ve got a championship there, it would have been over the top for his legacy, just one in Cleveland.”
Charles Barkley spoke to ESPN, “No matter how many he wins in Miami, it clearly is Dwyane Wade’s team.” That’s when he made the comparative statement with Michael Jordan.

“He’ll (LeBron) never be Jordan. This clearly takes him out of the conversation. He can win as much as he wants to.” So, from 2010 to 2024, Chuck is clear that Michael Jordan is forever his number 1 player. Whatever LeBron James will continue to achieve probably won’t shake that sentiment.
