On May 24, 2020, 150 residents were displaced by a two-alarm fire in the early morning hours. A heartfelt letter from one of the firefighters who battled that fire incident highlighted Barkley’s remarkable act of kindness. But you might wonder how the 1993 NBA MVP relates to this 4-year-old incident. Well, the Oak Hill Terrace Apartments in Lower Merion is also where Charles Barkley owns a condo. And during the fire, Barkley came through for his community.

The firefighter expressed deep gratitude for Barkley’s selfless actions during the crisis. He stated how the Phoenix Suns legend not only asked the firefighters to be safe but also demonstrated compassion towards his neighbors. Chuck’s co-host Ernie Johnson read the letter during the podcast, You were very appreciative we showed up and told us to stay safe. What I didn’t get a chance to tell you was that I saw and appreciate what you did for your neighbors.”

Speaking of Barkley’s actions, the firefighter wrote, “You were  actively seeking out information on whether a neighbor in a wheelchair made it out safely, you even left and returned with a seat for an elderly neighbor to sit on. I just want you to know that your acts of kindness do not go unnoticed. Thank you for being the guy I looked up to.”
