Michael Jordan had the unique ability to play every game like it was Game 7 of the NBA Finals. May it be the 42nd game of the regular season or the close-out game in the Finals, Jordan would bring out his full effort. This translated to the All-Star games as well. As MJ played with the mindset of winning, the rest of the players also followed suit.

But in recent years, new players don’t seem to be showing the same interest in winning the All-Star game as they did in the past. Jayson Tatum, on the other hand, still takes it seriously and even recently set a new All-Star game record. With high hopes for the Celtics star, Andre Iguodala shares his vision of how Tatum can change things with his Michael Jordan-like competitiveness.

According to Tatum, the all-star games have lost their meaning over the years. Players are not taking the game seriously, and often it seems like a grand celebration rather than a competitive game. So Tatum feels like changes have to be made for the All-Star game to be better.

Andre Iguodala, talking about how Tatum can change this, said, “These your MJ moment. You are that, you are coming into that. So you can galvanize the guys… That’s what I’m saying like, it’s the responsibility that comes with this thing. You can take this thing to another level.

Tatum commands a certain level of respect in the league for everything he has accomplished at such a young age. He has proven himself to be one of the best in the league, and with that, he could bring change to the All-Star game.

Tatum set a new All-Star game record

The most points that Michael Jordan ever scored in an All-Star game was 40. He did it back in 1988 and won the All-Star Game MVP award that season. In recent years, stars have been scoring way more than that. But Jayson Tatum, in 2023, decided to take over the All-Star game. He set a new game-high of 55 points which is the most ever in All-Star game history.
