After months of back and forth, the Philadelphia 76ers decided to finally give in and trade James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers. As they have finalized the trade, it is now time to look into all parties involved in the deal. People were expecting Morey to hold on much longer, but various circumstances made it tough for the Sixers, and they had to get Harden off the team soon.
During a recent episode of the Big Shot Rob podcast, the 7-time NBA champion Robert Horry gave his thoughts on the trade. He believes the 76ers received exactly the players that they needed to fill their team.

The Clippers did not have to give up any of their star players for Harden. But they did give four players and several draft picks. The 76ers received Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, Kenyon Martin Jr., an unprotected 2028 first-round pick, two future second-round picks, and one first-round pick swap from the 76ers.
Robert Horry feels that the Sixers are way better than they were with Harden, after this trade. He knows that Marcus Morris is a great player and was underutilized by the Clippers.
Horry said, “I just think that if you look at what the Sixers got, they got exactly what they needed.“
Horry talks about the 76ers team and how they looked without Harden in the last two games. Everything he saw from the team extremely impressed him. Tyrese Maxey seems to have taken a step and is ascending as a player. Joel Embiid is still playing as the MVP-caliber player that he is.

Tyrese Maxey is filling the hole in the team that James Harden could have filled. Along with this, Maxey is a better defender; he is more active and quicker. Adding Covington and Morris would boost both their offense and defense, and thus the Sixers look way better than they did two days ago, according to Robert Horry.
Why did Morey move James Harden for role players?

Daryl Morey had previously told the media that if he were to trade James Harden, it would be for someone who could be a running mate to Joel Embiid. But things took a turn for the worse in the off-season, with drama unfolding between Harden and Morey.
Most people were expecting Morey to hold on to Harden and wait till he finds a suitable team. But the new rule changes from the NBA meant he had to act quickly. A new resting policy from the league stated that if a player has been an All-Star or received an All-NBA selection in the past few seasons, then resting them on nationally televised games would induce the league to look into the reason, and fine the teams if done so without a valid reason.

So Morey could not just keep Harden on the bench. Further, as Tyrese Maxey is taking a jump, bringing Harden back to the lineup just to trade him away a few months later would also hinder Maxey’s development. All things considered, this was one of the best moves the Sixers could make. Now, only time will tell who actually won the trade.
