In a book, the Worm reminisces about his playing days in 1998 and said, ?I was the second most famous player in the NBA, right behind a guy named Michael Jordan. I was getting dozens of phone calls a day from charities, promoters, producers?.?
During that time, he was all over the news headlines. The media and public could not stop talking about him. He made a lot of noise because of his flamboyant personality and aura. Once, he mentioned how he was more popular than Jordan was for some time. Attempting to steal the limelight from the star player, he was living the best time of his life.
However, he also stated how he was recklessly spending his money. Here is what he said, ?Feel like going to Vegas? Rent a private jet. Want a new car? How ?bout a Bentley? Girlfriend want a new wardrobe? Jewelry? B**b job? No f****ng problem. I had it all and then some.?

Soon things went south for the Rebound King. The success and fame he earned during his career were gone. And he was back to the same old situation. That?s when he met his best mate, Dwight Manley, and asked for his help. In the year 2003, Manley met the player at the restaurant that Rodman co-owned.

According to the report by The New York Times journalist Stephen Rodrick, this is what Manley shared:
“We went into the back and he told me, “I?m going to lose everything ? please, please help me.? He was crying so hard, the snot was pouring out his nose. I told him to make the first step, to call me, but he never did. He?s just a shadow of what he was. It breaks my heart.”
