The 2025 Grammy gave us winners like Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar. But any star-studded spectacle will have some or other controversy. This time, a 13-time Grammy winner, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, was on the receiving end. Many celebrities, including Khloe Kardashian, spoke in his favor and demanded respect for the record producer. Similarly, a former NBA champion too chimed in, but with a warning.

No one will talk to them again watch…“Ron Harper stated on X, as he reposted a video of a close friend of Babyface. Boyz II Men member Shawn Stockman posted the video on his Instagram, which the RNB RADAR page used on X. The tweet currently has close to 200k views, as the songwriter was appalled to see the disrespect his friends had to face. His Instagram caption was, “This is prevalent in the culture of the music business. Why is that?! #thegrammys.

In the video, Stockman gave an example of another NBA champion to put his point across. “That would never happen in the NFL or the NBA. You would never disrespect Magic Johnson. Because there’s a level of understanding of what those particular human beings brought to that respective profession. But it seems to be the opposite in the music industry. The industry tends to have a really bad habit of doing very disrespectful things to people that should be honored.” So, let’s look at what really transpired on the Red Carpet on the 67th edition of the Grammy’s.

Babyface was in the middle of responding to a question from AP correspondents when he was cut off. The two correspondents were Leslie Ambriz and Krysta Fauria, and then the latter appeared to spot Roan behind Edmonds and started calling, “Chappell! Chappell.” Edmonds graciously stated, “You guys wanna?” and said, “Go do that” as he handed his microphone to Ambriz, who offered a quick apology.

What was a big night for “Pink Pony Club” artist Chappell Roan, who won the Grammy for Best New Artist, turned out sour, with no fault of her own. Before the former Lakers legend expressed his anger, Khloe Kardashian also reacted negatively to Babyface’s treatment.

Is the music industry losing its respect for legends like Babyface, unlike the NBA and NFL?

Have an interesting take?

Before the NBA champion’s tweet, an apology had already come in from the guilty party

This is so disrespectful how Babyface was treated in this interview. Babyface has had such a significant impact on the music industry, in sooo many ways. Its maddening to see a LEGEND not get the respect and attention they deserve.” The former partner of NBA star Lamar Odom also hit out at the reporters for their behavior. “PS big or small, old or new, – you don’t treat people like this. At least not in my eyes. There’s a way to handle this and this was wrong in my opinion.”

The apology did come not only from Krysta Fauria, who interrupted Edmonds but also from AP. “I wanted to say that I’m really sorry about interrupting Babyface earlier. Chappell Roan had come up, and there was a lot of commotion, as there is on these carpets. But I’m a big Babyface fan, as are we all, and so I just wanted to say that, that I really apologize.”

AP said in a statement, “We are deeply sorry for cutting our interview with Babyface short on our YouTube livestream of the Grammys red carpet.” Plus, further stated that they apologized to Edmonds, through his representative. So, it was not just the music industry who were upset, but even the NBA legend and 5x Champion Ron Harper who expressed anger at the entire situation.
