In his latest interview with SXSW, the Flash reflected on his past and recalled one fear that has consistently fueled his competitive drive. “it’s a fear you carry when you grow up a certain way. You grow up poor, it’s a fear of being back there for your family, like I. You know, I’m responsible for my family, my mom, my dad. I’m responsible, big responsibility…But yes I definitely learned. I watched my dad.”

He added, “I used to watch my dad get up, no matter what night my dad had…he got up every morning at 5 a.m. He went to work. I had to drive him to work. When I was 12 years old. I was driving my dad to the train station, trying not to get caught by the police. On the way back home, because that’s just how you got to do it. I was next in line, and so I learned a lot by watching my dad in his own way.”
