A four-year-old video is still capable of bringing the rare agreement of fans on the bashing of Michael Jordan, arguably the biggest legend of the game. The resurfaced video in discussion is Kendrick Perkins’ outburst against MJ after His Airness’ alleged audio leak. The one where he denied playing on the 1992 Olympics Dream Team if Isiah Thomas was to be included. While the fans still have their anger reserved against MJ in connection to the leaked audio, even Thomas shared the clip of Perk’s outburst recently shared by an IG user.

Makes sense, considering Perkins had completely sided with Thomas in his rant, “They had a problem with Isiah Thomas’ competitive nature… That’s the only way I see them keeping them off the (1992 Olympics’) Dream Team.”

We all know by this time that it all started with Zeke not shaking hands with Jordan and his team after the Chicago Bulls’ win in the 1991 Eastern Conference finals. However, Thomas himself never had a very clear stance on the incident in the discussion.

In one interview, Zeke had admitted “poor sportsmanship” on his part. Meanwhile, another instance had him justifying his move. He stated it stemmed from Mike calling the Pistons undeserving winners. The chances, however, are that most sports enthusiasts would agree with Thomas’ admission of “poor sportsmanship.” But still, no excuse for a player to keep him away from an opportunity like the Olympics. Only if that were completely the case.

Yes, Mike’s involvement is not the only thing that’s believed to be the factor behind Zeke not making it to Dream Team. His comments about Magic Johnson’s diagnosis with HIV and alleged comments on his sexuality are also said to have contributed to keeping Thomas away from Barcelona in 1992. Kendrick Perkins, however, did not seem in the mood to take any of this into consideration in his outburst against Michael Jordan in 2020.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Michael Jordan's ego really keep Isiah Thomas off the Dream Team, or is it just a myth?

Have an interesting take?

Perk even went to the extent of claiming that The Last Dance documentary series was nothing but an attempt “to make MJ look like a superhero and make everybody else look like a villain…” He further stated the series was not just full of lies but “snitching.” A comment that seems to agree with Horace Grant’s retaliation. Those who have watched the series would remember Mike calling Grant a snitch.

Grant responded to MJ’s allegations in his interviews later. He pointed out if anyone it was Mike who was a snitch for bringing up an incident of his rookie year when he walked into a hotel room full of his teammates indulged with girls and substance abuse. And Perkins clearly sided with Grant back in his 2020 interview.

“He threw everybody under the bus. At the end of the day… Scottie Pippen is pissed off. Horace Grant is pissed off. Isaiah Thomas is pissed off. And then, God rest his soul, Jerry Krause wasn’t even here to defend himself,” Perk said. The former Celtics star argued Krause was a legendary General Manager who did not get his due credit in The Last Dance. He added, “They made him out to be this bad individualY’all could deal with MJ and all his lies, but LBJ is my goat…”

How correct was Perkins in his take is up for debate. But what’s clear is that a significant section of NBA fans agree with his take against His Airness to this day.

Fans go unfiltered against Michael Jordan over Kendrick Perkins’ resurfaced video

With Kendrick Perkins bringing up LeBron James and the GOAT angle in his take, anyone could have seen fans coming in and calling names. No surprise that the social media comments, which are usually against the former Celtics star, had one IG user writing, “One of the best takes I ever heard… Jordashains are about to be triggered..”

However, there were some users who addressed things the right way from Perk’s comments. “Really good is a understatement. He [Jerry Krause] arguably the greatest GM in history. Saw the potential in Scottie, Horace, BJ, Kukoc and of course Phil,” wrote one such user. No doubts here. Jerry Kruase could not have done a better job with the Bulls’ line-up. And he deserves just as much credit as the stars of the team.

Then there was one IG user pointing out the Isiah Thomas angle from Perkins’ take. “Zeke is the one guy that got the best of MJ…and it will always burn his a**.” Again, a take that can have different aspects taking into account different factors. Consider Michael Jordan’s 6 NBA championships, way higher number of accolades, and billions of dollars and he has nothing to be burning about. Zeke, however, had one up on Jordan in one aspect.

Something that Thomas himself pointed out during his recent appearance on The Mark Jackson Show. He stated MJ never talked to him the way he does with others (supposedly rudely) because he and his Pistons beat the Bulls more than Mike ever did to Zeke and his Pistons. Yep, the score is 36-29 in Isiah’s favor.

Moving on, another fan wrote, “Somebody had to say it. People be scared to call out the BS from 23.” Echoing the same thought, another user wrote, “Facts👏👏👏”

So it’s clear that Kendrick Perkins was partly right in his take, but he still needed to factor in additional info on some aspects. Just like the IG users commenting on the post that re-shared the clip from 2020.
