Is Kiyan Anthony the next big thing in basketball, following in his father's legendary footsteps?

Carmelo Anthony‘s 17-year-old son has shown major growth, but is there still a department left to improve? Till the beginning of this year, Kiyan Anthony was averaging close to 10 points per game in his matchups. But the numbers have shown an impressive improvement ever since his EYBL run began. And returning to the league with Peach Jam, Kiyan is once again dropping impressive numbers.

In one such game, he scored 27 points, and the Slam Highlights shared the clips of it in an Instagram post. La La Anthony showed love in the comment section with a heart emoji for his son’s performance at the game. However, there was one IG user who had part criticism and part appreciation for the 17-year-old. “He not athletic but he skilled like melo,” wrote the user. Melo entered the reply section to the comment with a series of laughing emojis first.

“This is funny as sh*t lol,” the former Denver Nuggets star later wrote. In the game in discussion, Kiyan’s gameplay included multiple variations, including layups, 3-point shots, and jump shots. It is worth mentioning Melo is quite protective of his kid. Yet another instance of this was his defending the 17-year-old against Nate Robinson’s comments.

The instance goes back to Kiyan’s top 100 camp appearance, prior to the EYBL Peach Jam. In one game, the 17-year-old scored 35, but on 39 attempts. “He shooting the ball every time he touches it, lol he getting buckets tho,” Robinson commented on the IG post highlighting Kiyan’s performance. “It’s camp! Let them boys enjoy the summer,” Melo replied. And it seems Kiyan very well did so, as he closed the top 100 camp with 28.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 8 games.

Apart from this, he has had an impressive run at the EYBL as well this season. The 17-year-old averaged 19.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in his Peach Invitational Tournament (PIT) run. It was after this that he joined the top 100 camp. But now he is back in the EYBL with Peach Jam, and besides his most recent 21 points against Team Final, he scored 40 points earlier on 15-on-19 shooting.

As per 247 Sports, Kiyan Anthony is a four-star prospect, who has already received offers from multiple colleges like Syracuse and Arizona State. But so far, he has only visited two of these institutes — his father’s alma mater, Syracuse, and Florida State. The earlier speculations were that the 17-year-old would most likely join Syracuse itself, but now there is an interesting mix in the scenario.

Following his impressive run at the top 100 camp and EYBL, USC also recently made an offer to Carmelo Anthony’s son. The Trojans head coach Eric Musselman, and assistant coach Quincy Pondexter themselves contacted the budding basketball star. “Coach Musselman reached out to me when I was in Vegas. Coach Pondexter, who played against my dad, also shows a lot of love. I’m waiting for them to offer so I can visit California,” Kiyan said.

And now that the University has made an offer, Kiyan told On3 Recruits that he will visit USC soon. Apart from this, he is also planning visits to Ohio State, Auburn State, Rutgers, and a likely return trip to Syracuse.
