The 95-year-old Boston Celtics legend Bob Cousy wants to see his team become the most successful franchisee in NBA history. He spoke with The Boston Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy after the game 2 finals, “I know I’m in overtime. So everything in your life becomes more meaningful. And one of the last things I want to be able to see is for the Celtics to hang up banner No. 18.” Apart from this, he also singled out Kyrie Irving and his ineffective in the finals. But his comments haven’t gone down well with the former Warriors Coach.
The former analyst Mark Jackson‘s son Bluu was a supporter of the Dallas Mavericks for the finals but recently turned his allegiance after game 3. But even he agreed with his father that the dunk on Irving was unnecessary.
“Cousy one of the all-time greats to ever play the game. From my neighborhood St Albin Queens, went to Andrew Jackson High School,” Mark Jackson said, via Come And Talk 2 Me.”Bob Cousy, pump your breaks on the uh, attack of Kyrie Irving put some respect on his name. He’s a champion, and he’s an all-time great.” The 59-year-old also suggested there was no need to attack a fellow NBA player. Plus, he also made a guarantee that Irving would join Cousy in the Hall of Fame one day. But Bluu had more harsh criticism.

He felt that Cousy could have spoken about a lot of other things rather than dissing Irving. “I haven’t heard from Bob Cousy in my whole life I can’t even lie, pops. And that’s why it threw me off guard…” But his father was quick to remind him to show respect to the legend and also reminded Bob Cousy about his comments. “Let’s charge it to the game but pump your brakes. To one of the all-time greats respect to you and respect to the great Kyrie Irving.” It was all fair for Bob Cousy to cheer and urge the Celtics to win but was it out of line to speak about Irving?
Bob Cousy’s not-so-subdued comments on Irving
“The Celtics have exposed Kyrie Irving as not quite a superstar,” said Cousy. “He has been severely subdued. They’re not even trapping him a lot. They’re doing it one-on-one. Kyrie’s working his a** off and they’re still stopping most of his stuff.” It needs to be remembered Bob Cousy said it after game 2.
“He’s no longer in the superstar category. You’ve got to function in the playoffs to determine where you are in the hierarchy.” Cousy felt that Irving wasn’t quite matching his intensity from games before. Even gave an anecdote about his performance. “So mediocre talent functions better and better talent functions more effectively during the season.”
