With the new NBA season in full swing, it is turning out to be an extremely competitive one. Tensions are running high, and NBA players are now emotionally and physically invested in their team’s performance.

Because of this, many players from opposite teams are getting into scuffles or are facing ejections for their aggression on the court. One such extreme scenario was when Draymond Green put Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a chokehold during the recent Timberwolves-Warriors ‘In-Season’ tournament game. Despite serving a five-game suspension, Draymond Green shows no remorse for his actions against the Timberwolves center.

In a press conference after a Warriors’ practice session, Draymond Green responds when he is asked about the Gobert situation, “I don’t live my life with regrets.” Draymond claims he was protecting his teammate Klay Thompson, when an on-court brawl was about to break out between the two teams. Draymond says in the same interview, “I’ll come to a teammate’s defense any time that I’m in a position to come to a teammate’s defense… what matters to me is how the people that I care about feel.”

However, ex-Suns star Eddie A. Johnson calls out Draymond Green for his actions. He mentions in an “X” post, “The only person in danger was Gobert in a chokehold!” This is not the first time that Draymond Green has been involved in a physical brawl as extreme as this was. Once, he had an almost career-ending physical fight with his then-GSW teammate, Jordan Poole.

In December 2022, Draymond Green was involved in a physical altercation with his former teammate, Jordan Poole, during a training session. Leaked video footage of Draymond Green punching Jordan Poole went viral on social media which forced the Warriors organization to issue a public statement regarding the issue. Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Warriors team, stated that they wouldn’t be suspending the forward, and would instead fine him. However, Draymond Green caught a lot of flack from the NBA community who criticized him for his ‘unacceptable’ actions.

Draymond publicly mentioned that he would take some time away from the Warriors team after this incident and even issued a public apology to Jordan Poole. However, Draymond Green continued to justify his actions by comparing them to what apparently happens in NFL practice sessions. Steve Kerr mentioned later that Green will be playing in the preseason game against the Nuggets. Despite such complicated and unresolved issues within the team, the Golden State Warriors became the 2022 NBA champions. Jordan Poole got traded from the Warriors the following season and Draymond Green continues to be a ‘pivotal’ player of the current Warriors squad as well.
