The Chicago Bulls‘ inaugural class for the Ring of Honor ceremony was stacked. While most people waited for a special celebration in the name of some legends, the event took a weird turn when Jerry Krause’s name was announced. The fans started booing in the arena, even though the late man’s wife was going to accept the honor.
There were several fans, pundits, and even some veterans who criticized the Bulls fans for their actions. Gilbert Arenas believes that all of this could have been avoided if the Bulls managed the event better.

Arenas said, “I don’t think they should’ve had the graphics up there. You know damn well these motherf***ers are still pissed at this man. It should’ve been just her[Krause’s wife].” Although Arenas presented a solution with which this could have been avoided, he was in no way in support of the actions of the Bulls fans. However, he did try to break down the history between Jerry Krause and Michael Jordan to understand what prompted the fans to take on a dead man. He said, “I think because him and Jordan were at odds the whole time and they don’t give him the credit for the team.”
“Jordan and Krause, you had two titans that were battling. Jordan was individual, Krause was a team person. So the beef between the two was personal. Everything Jordan wanted to do, he went opposite. Looking at how Jordan was picking players in Charlotte, Krause was smart,” Arenas said. Despite the turbulent relationship that Jordan had with Krause, the ex-general manager was also part of the Bulls dynasty that dominated the NBA in the 90s.

Several people also believe that Krause has been hated so much now because of his portrayal in the documentary, The Last Dance. But this couldn’t be any further from the truth. Even when he was running things with the Bulls, fans didn’t like Krause because every feud that the players had with him was put on public display.

There are clips of Krause’s name being announced during celebrations and ceremonies back in the day and the fans were booing him then as well. However, this recent event should have been different. Especially because he is no longer with us, so whatever sour feelings fans had for him should’ve been kept aside. Additionally, it was his wife who was there for the ceremony, so booing her dead husband in front of her is adding insult to injury and it definitely isn’t something she should’ve had to go through.
